Dell Small Business has a Dell Dimension 9100 + 2405FPW 24" LCD monitor combo on sale for $1199 after $100 rebate. Look near the top of their main page for the "outrageous deals" link. Most upgrades are overpriced. Replace/upgrade the components yourself.

P4 3GHZ
512MB Dual-channel DDR RAM
40GB SATA HDD (only $20 upgrade to 80GB)

Dell Home is also running a 40% off $999+ notebooks coupon again.

I never bought from Dell but I need a new comp and don't have time to piece one together.
Anyone know if you can upgrade these down the road?
How many open slots and bays?
These answers are not on their web site.
Also is this and the one the next step down unusual deals or rather common?
Any coupons to make this a better deal?
Anyone own this monitor?
I know I am asking a lot of questions but could use the help.
Thank you.

We recently got some new Dell Optiplex's at work and we discovered that Dell has flipped their case design so that the cards face up rather than down. We discovered that this makes it impossible to put in any dual slot video cards because their is no slot and would make it impossible to use any large cooler on a single slot card because the CPU heatsink sits right above the PCIe slot.

The Dimensions still look fine, but this is something to consider when buying a Dell Optiplex now.

I called them.
Yes you can upgrade video.
Also has extra slots and bays.
The 9100 with 19 monitor is 679.00 before upgrades.
To double memory, hardrive, video, and upgrade to digital monitor makes it 889.00
Tax and shipping almost a was 978.00 I think.
Going to call and get price with no monitor.

The more I look at this I'm better off getting the one with the 24 in monitor with no upgrades or next one down with no upgrades and upgrading myself.
Or if I don't go with the 24 just building one.
I got one day to decide lol

The 9100's also use the new BTX form factor, well I assume this is what it is, but there seems to be room for a dual slot video card. The inside is a bit more crowded than the 8400, but it's not too much trouble adding things such as memory.

Corsair DDR2 533mhz memory runs fine with the 9100's as well as the 4700's, 8400's. Have not bought a 5100 yet.

Caution, the 9100 comes standard withOUT PS/2 ports for mice and keyboards, USB only.

*Pictures of the Dimension 9100*

I have about a dozen of these right now, so if anyone needs more pics, PM me.

I really have reservations of bringing a 2405fpw to college with me though :/. (first year in dorms) Think that might be a bad idea?

Can anyone tell me the benefits of the wide screen besides movies which I don't watch on my computer and for programs like photoshop?
Do games or websites etc take advantage of it or is it in normal box screen kinda like widescreen tv.

Oh and thanks bamacre for the heads up on the ps/2 and the photo's.

With websites you can see more stuff horizontally. There are games that take advantage of the extra screen space - WOW looks gorgeous in widescreen.

They are super quiet. They vent through the front on the lower part of the case. I got on this deal a month ago. Good buy. Definitely recommend.
