Those prices are nice, but don't order over the internet. Two guys I work with asked me for recommendations for home computers. I told both to call Dell. We put good packages together online, then I had them call Dell to place the order. Dell upgraded several components with non-advertised prices, and both packages came out with betters stats AND lower prices.

Ive never heard that before. Always seems like its the other way around.
I guess whatever works for you.

Either way the price for the 8400 is really nice with those free upgrades.

That's almost as good as the $400 8400s from the Dell outlet, plus this system is brand new.

I doubt that this works for the outrageous deals.

I actually tried it a few times and there was a lot of silence on the other end of the line, and usually they can only meet those prices if you buy a more loaded system at higher overall cost.

If you order a la carte may be

if ordering in volume you can usually get better deals over the phone - otherwise not so much. I bought 11 lcds and they cut it to far cheaper than all the coupon stacking deals, etc, but it was because I bought more than 10.

Every time I order I do so over the phone and get hooked up. If you need help knowing how to do so, follow these steps:
1) Configure your system online with all of your coupon stacking and such. Know the ins and outs of what you're getting for that price and why it's that price.
2) Call 1-800-WWW-DELL and talk to the Sales dept.
3) Come up with some questions (how many RAM slots on the motherboard, etc.).
4) Once they answer you, say "Thanks, I'll just go ahead and place my order online now."
5) 90% of the time the rep will come back and say "I can help you with that order if you want". If they don't hang up and call again and talk to another rep.
6) When they offer to help you ask, "Well, I have it already configured online. Is there any reason for me to order through you over the phone instead of the internet?" (The answer is that there is because they get commission.)
7) Mooch the guy for any freebies you can get (another upgrade, free overnight shipping, extended warranty, etc.)

Voila! Better deal over the phone than via internet!

Now, generally speaking they can't adjust Outrageous Deals that much BUT if the deal bundles a monitor with it, you can have that yanked out and the price they drop for that is less than what they really can drop off so you now have a little more room to work with.

I have yet to order anything from them and not get a better deal over the phone than over the internet. And they usually don't even ask for coupon codes, they just believe me that I have them.

I completely agree with ordering over the phone. If you keep at them, you can usually get a good price on something, better than online with a possible few free upgrade too. Called to see about ordering a 1704FPT and they said the price was $349.99 but "today only" they were running a special to $329.99. So I talked with him for a minute about the monitor, and I said "it's a nice monitor, but honeslty I dont have $329 to spend on it right now. I'll call back when I have enough money." The rep didn't want me to hang up. So he said, "well, are you a first time customer?" I said "yes" and then he offered me a deal of $100 off $349 if I signed up and got approved for a dell preferred account. I knew I was gonna get approved so I said yes. Had him throw in free shipping and bam! Brand new 1704FPT for $249 with 3 year warranty and it shipped 5 days later. I highly recommend it!

Here's what I did to get the same deal as earlier today (JUST got off the phone):

I placed an order earlier today for the above deal, and asked if I could quadruple it since I had intentions to resell the machines. If they give you any problems, ask them if you could open a reseller account. Let them know you would be interested in purchasing about $15,000 worth of stuff within the next 6 months. They should be very excited to work with you on the deal. They let me place another order for 4 more desktops and said they will call me back soon about placing a larger order in the next 6 months.

For reference, this is what I got for about $895 shipped (not including the $100 MIR):

Dimension 8400 Series, Intel Pentium 4 Processor 640 (3.2GHz) w/HT Technology and 2MB cache
1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 400MHz
Dell Quiet Key Keyboard
17 in (17.0 in viewable) 1704FPt Digital Flat Panel Display
128MB PCI Express x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
No Floppy Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition,Service Pack 2,English
Dell 2-button Scroll Mouse
Intel Pro 1000 Integrated PCI NIC Card
16X DVD+/-RW Drive
Integrated Audio
Technical Support, Initial Year
Thank you for choosing 1 Year Economy Plan
$100 MAIL-IN REBATE 55301, Redeem within 30 days of ship date at www.dell.com/bsd_rebates
Purchase is intended for resell

I also will be getting those 720 inkjet printers as well with each computer.

I would call ASAP and try to get this, give them a sob story about how you meant to order earlier today but didn't. Good luck!
