Thanks I did install Debian Wheezy 7 ,you Think any of those will run better?

Not really. It pretty much comes down to the desktop, and programs you run. I wouldn't use anything heavier than Xfce on that machine, but you could try Lxde and E17 to see how you like the performance and features. They're both lighter than Xfce.

Yes i installed Debian Wheezy and than i installed Xfce4, it runs real good,

but i tried to install xubuntu,Mint14, Lubuntu, debian but failed the install, missing some type of file. then i thought of swaping the Nvidia Gforce 4 Ti 4200 card for an Ati 9600 card that i had in my scrap ,than i tried Debian Wheezy 7 and it installed realy great, i did not try any of the others yet.

Also consider Manjaro

Thanks Alex: for the suggestion but i did install Xubuntu 12.04LTS,
it installs everything i need out of the box, and it's long time support
and i like that, also I'm used to it, to tell you the Truth i rather use UBUNTU distros, i tried mint,Debian,on my main pcs and end up going back with Ubuntu and Xubuntu long time support Distros.

I've been playing around with Linux Lite, it feels snappy on an old AMD 3800+ machine I have. It is based on 12.04 LTS as well.

https://www.linuxliteos.com/

you're right:most Linux Distros are Based on Ubuntu but there are testing ones and the stable ones, see ; i don't want say:Ubuntu 12.10 or 13.04,and so on ,and top stable distros with longtime support, i only trust Ubuntu, and xubuntu 12.04 LTS since these are the ones that give me less trouble compared to the others that i tried, and i use Debian on a Imac G5 cause Ubuntu doesn't have ppc support and a Ubuntu ppc that runs right,Ubuntu has PPC but they do not run properly, Debian wheezy in the other hand runs great in Apple I mac g5, and has everything out of the box except sound and wireless,ha and flash, but with a little tweak i can get these working . it's better than Ubuntu that can't even get the desktop environment working, so it's useless.

I moved away from any and all Ubuntu based distros. Too unstable, and buggy for me. And with Ubuntu pretty much going in the exact opposite direction of just about every other distro out there, I want something that is as "standardized" as possible, if thats the right word. And Manjaro is a rolling release, so it has a long term support system by default, and you never have to reinstall. Plus I like PACMAN more than apt-get personally. And I just flatout do not trust Canonical, they are becoming the Microsoft of Linux.

I use gnome Classic on my i5 main desktop , not Unity,

some distro may work right on some computers and may be glitchy on others, i have tried the top Distros on my machines and came to the conclusion that ubuntu and xubuntu are the best for my computers,so what works good on your machine might not work as good on mine.

I seems to fluctuate, a few weeks ago, it was number 4 on the list for the last 7 days. Right now its number 8 over 6 months.

Well I'm happy with Linux Mint14 Nadia for the time being, this Dell Demention 4500 seems to like it,and it runs smoothly,
till it starts to give me trouble I'll keep it,
I don't like to work much when it comes to installs,i prefer the easy way,
when a Distro starts to have glitches i prefer to make clean install or just try other Distro, then to try to repair it software wise .That's why i love Linux compared to Windows OPS.I have a Dozen Distros ready to go.

If you want to make a very tuned installation which only has the precise components you need and nothing else, there's always Arch. Just be prepared to spend 2 months getting it all working!

Yeah I agree, I did try all the Ubuntu's, and Mint, but they all gave me problems, as did Zorin, and Pinguy. So I just came to the conclusion that it was Ubuntu's fault, and switched to Manjaro, and so far, it has been flawless.

Been using one distro or another for 15+ years. Tried most of those listed here with varying degrees of success. Was an early user of Mandriva, Redhat (Still have RH6), different versions of Ubuntu,

I used to be a firm supporter of Ubuntu until they started, as mentioned, to become an MS clone.

Since then I have standardized on the following distors:

Fedora for power machines and the most control

centOS for servers

slacko for lite installs (works great on an older Dell Lat, very small install, no issues with hdw and very snappy)

Still try a new distro occasionally but as I get older I have less time to play. :^(
