I don't think this is Flat. My understanding is that flat trinitron tubes are of higher quality. That and flat is cool.

Uh, it's up to 20% off; monitors are only 5%. (Which is good, because I don't need another monitor.)

Where do you see %20?

i received email from Dell for 20% off. From this mail, goes to monotor and add item. It will take 20% off
automatically. No problem for me.

I don't think this is Flat.

It is flat. I use this mode monitor at working place every day.

I got the Dell email today. When I link through it and place the monitor in cart: only 5% off. Some people have all the luck, Terrace.

You don't know what you're talking my friend.

DEll P991 is one of the best Trinitron Monitor in existence. They are FLAT too.

The automatic 20% off discount for Dell "system upgrades" is working on some Dell branded monitors but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work on this one. That website is kinda flakey so if you try again tomorrow it might work.

This monitor is awesome, I've had a Dell P991 since October 2000 and it's been great.

This is a flat CRT monitor (not an LCD display) and has a (Sony) FD Trinitron tube inside.

If you're still not sure if you wanna buy this read these comments, also check the General Hardware forum and search Google.com for Dell P991 reviews.

It works on me. Actually I ordered last night. Don't forget another 3% rebate from eBates. Finally cost $270 shipped.

Well, I hate to go against what everyone else has said so far, but I got this exact monitor when I bought my computer over a year and a half ago. In that amount of time it has been replaced 9 times. I'm a big fan of reliability and this just makes me mad. I wouldn't touch this deal with a 10 ft pole.

Can anyone tell me how much difference there is between the P991 and the M991 (aside from the $80)? I was fiddling with the deals last night, and was able to reliably get the M991 to give me a 20% discount, bringing it to $223 with free shipping. I didn't mess with the P991 because my budget's a little tight, but this morning at work I can only get either monitor at the 5% off.

Another irony is that the P991 shows $35 shipping and the M991 shows $95 shipping, in both cases it ends up being discounted off. Strange.

Web site is acting really weird like that.

Trinitrons are 100% vertically flat but not horizontally

horizontally they have a slight curve to them, but its only slight. Typically the glass on the front has been shaped flat both horizontally and vertically, but the inside of the front glass with the pixels has a curve to it horizontally. Since the outside is 100% flat it does look a bit better because the glare isnt as bad.

Now sonys Vega series tv's, they're 100% flat in every aspect. Although I dont know if they're going to use the same technology for pc monitors. They might not bother considering the initial cost of development, and that LCD monitors are really the future of mainstream systems so the life of vega pc monitors would be short.

sony tv's and pc monitors used to be regular trinitron, which were vertically flat. currently, as far as I know, both tv's (wega) and higher-end monitors (dell p991, p1110, p1130, etc.) are FD trinitron, which are now completely flat. if you can get the p991 for $280 shipped, it's a hot deal. it's a great monitor, unless you can get the 21" p1110/p1130.

I've had this model's little broter (the P990) for a few years and I can say it's been a great monitor. It's near flat (not quite as good as the g400's) and looks good at 1280x. I bought mine for $400 at Dell Factor Outlet (Retail was $700+) so this is a good price.

<< I thought this monitor would be similar to a Sony g400? I guess not. >>

It is, that's why it's an FD Trinitron inside.

I was under the impression that the CPD-G400 (which I am lookiing at right now), and similar FD Trinitions like the Compaq P900 have a maximum resolution of 1920x1440 and a recommended res of 1600x1200. This Dell has a max of 1600x1200 and a recommended res of 1280x1024.
