I just wish Sony would do away with the captive monitor cable. I've had two monitors cables go bad, and you can't replace them, because they are built-in to the monitor! Get with the program Sony! Use replaceable cables on your monitors! Personally I've been looking at the Sony G420S 19" but it is gray in color to match their Sony VAIO computers. Another poor decision by Sony.

Oh ya im a real proud owner of my trinitron...whenever it starts getting fuzzy and out of focus it just puts in a tear in my eye at how proud I am. Stupid POS, i gotta call dell up now and get a replacement. I've had this monitor since august 2000, good thing about warranty's, cuz this big steamer is going back to dell. I hope the rest of the monitors everyone else is buying don't die as fast as mine.

I'll go with the short answer for this one. This is the flat trinitron, not the vertically flat one.

looks like about the best you can do is go to tech bargains and get the 10% off coupon code and use that

that brings it to 314.10 shipped...

<< Trinitrons are 100% vertically flat but not horizontally

horizontally they have a slight curve to them, but its only slight. Typically the glass on the front has been shaped flat both horizontally and vertically, but the inside of the front glass with the pixels has a curve to it horizontally. Since the outside is 100% flat it does look a bit better because the glare isnt as bad.

Now sonys Vega series tv's, they're 100% flat in every aspect. Although I dont know if they're going to use the same technology for pc monitors. They might not bother considering the initial cost of development, and that LCD monitors are really the future of mainstream systems so the life of vega pc monitors would be short.
>>

Good point but LCD's will very quickly become a thing of the past relatively soon.. Thin CRT's will be the future.. next years laptops will feature thin CRT's over LCD's and desktop monitors with thin CRT's will appear soon after.. LCD's will be a painful memory of the past because hardcore gamers could never really use em, at least not most of them

Ok, I finally gave in and ordered one tonight. The deal will be over soon enough. What sold me was the 3 year warranty, hehehe...

Also, I if you think about getting one, be careful as the grey version is not as good as the white one. In my opinion, the slightly higher price of the white one is well worth it.

Can't wait for my baby to get here!

Damn! I just ordered my second P991 like three weeks ago for a dual monitor set up, paid $350 shipped =/

Just to clear things up, it's a 19" Flat Screen (CRT) Trinitron. This price is a great excuse to pick one up.

I think even for $350 this is a great deal. If I needed any more reason, the 3 year warranty is nice, too. At least I think so. Never know what happens, made my experiences with electronics.

I own this monitor the Dell P991.

I bought a refurbished one from Ubid for this same price a few years back- overall i've been happy with it but I think it's starting to die..or something is interfering with it as it seems to have a nice fuzzy display.

This monitor comes with a 3 year warranty

It doesn't get much hotter than this, folks. Only something a true enthusiast can appreciate.

liquidinferno: if you want a Trinitron monitor there is no way around the 2 lines. that's part of the design of the Trinitron. Personally I don't have a problem with those lines. I think they are hardly visible. Maybe it's because of my bad vision but I don't stare at the screen looking for them.

Can't wait for my monitor to get here... 19", 's gonna be nice.

DEAL IS ALIVE AGAIN. Just bought one for 20% off - no shipping, no tax, and if you use eBates, you get 10.50 back bringing your final cost to 268.70 shipped. After calling about 20 Sam's in a 100 mile radius and finding none with G400s, this was my only recourse...so the cabinets won't match. For this price I don't care!

thanks for that post. I am on the phone with Dell right now, trying to get those 15% I didn't get the first time around. Hey, 50 bucks is 50 bucks.

Yep, worked for me this morning. All I could get to work last night was the 5% discount. Checked again this morning and received the 20% discount.

Lucky me, because my Nokia died on me last night... *poof*

I purchased the sun equivelant of this monitor for 200 off ebay. I'd probably consider myself lucky, cause it was brand new and the guy lived ~20 miles from me, but it's still worth looking at if you can't get in on the dell deal

the sun model # is CPD-4410
EXCELLENT monitor for those of you that do decide to get it. I'm running 1600x1200 @ 85hz with perfect visible geometry, no bleeding, and no visible moire!

YMMV on ebay as always, but it's worth looking... but I'd recommend only buying in your area as shipping can be a bit much, and the AG wires are easily misaligned in shipping.

Wow, what an obscure link.
Ordered one today, never dealt with the trinitron and associated "lines;" hope I'm not going to be annoyed by them! Got the 20% off, seemed to good to pass up. I was considering the Samsung 955df and could have gotten it for around $190, so looks like I spent $90 more than that and got a FD trinitron. Not too bad I guess.

I thought this deal ended on the 25th.

I was on the phone with Dell earlier today and the guy says: "...the specials change all the time..."
I ordered initially with only 5% off, ordered a second monitor on Monday getting 20% off. As suggested by a Dell sales rep: the first one will go back for a refund
