I think you should be able to mix and match, but it will/'should' default to the lowest speed it "sees"; however, this board enables support for Dual Channel processing, i.e., the mobo's chipset has two channels for processing. This will utilize the theoretical bandwidth of the two memory modules...caveate that they are fast enough and alike enough so that when one if "finished" processing their set of instructions, the 'other' channel is processed and when it is through, the other picks it up the instruction. Gains can be as high, theoretically, as 1/10 as much. That said, faster memory does this better with an 800MHz FSB.

After that it's voodoo.

Firstly, YourMother, what configuration did you order? I ordered the 2.8G on Friday and mine is still stuck in "Production"...it's been there for over 48 Hours...it's being made into an episode...is it because you ordered something other than a 2.8?

Oh poop, after reading Olliebg's, I went to the D's website...it's STILL in production. It's having a long labor. Tomorrow's another day.

Ah yes, olliebg and YourMother...your order looks hauntingly as my own. Olliebg's an optimist, letting me know that mine's probably going to be the next down the shoot. I even hesitated answering the email of the sr. project engineer for this product line so he wouldn't delay my order even if he could provide me with some other goodies. Let's just get this thing outta labor...3 days in 'build' is enough.

As of now, no $175 or $150 discount and the 2.8G costs + $199, too. To recap, that's $499 US + the $199 for the P4 2.8G 800FSB; the P4 2.4G is + $99. Still free shipping.

So what was $400 last week/end is now $700. And the Fed says there's no inflation.

I would agree; this is like "fantasy computers"...a great deal, cancel three orders and 'buy' a 10% coupon at the last hour on Friday, order for the 4th time with a price $40 less than before, get a great deal on a Lite-On for the other 5.25 bay, get two other 160 GB drives ready and imaged and loaded for the new system and ready to receive 2X256MB DDR400 modules...and it's still in Production since Monday morning. Next time I'm calling in the order.

I really don't think that would help the process. It just sounds like Dell's backed up. I wouldn't worry until the computer misses it's ship date. I'm also pretty sure those of you with computers "In Production" have computers that haven't even started being built. Mine sat like that for a few days, then was all of a sudden Kitted, Built, Tested and Boxed in a matter of hours. I think "In Production" just means the order's gone through and is sitting in their computer queue, not that it is actually sitting in a box somewhere being built/tested.

Cheer! Only 4-5 more days as it now shows shipped and in transit...that means it's in one of MDell's trailors heading to an origination hub! That was for a Friday early afternoon order. There's a reference point.

I alsmost paid for 2nd day shipping too, but oh well..Im just hoping that since it shipped out from dell at 6:45, it will be on a plane between now and tonite, to show up to the local distributer in time to be delivered tomorrow. I ordered a fp from them and once it left dell, it took practically no time at all to get to my house using the 5 day method. Im in San Jose, CA.

If you have a 10% off coupon, you can get the 2.8GHz version right now for around 489.00 + tax (2.2% less if you use F@tcash) and you receive a Free Palm Zire!

Free shipping too!

(Around $90.00 less for the 2.4GHz)

Since many of you have had your systems delivered, BTW, has anyone been able to get their 2.8/2.4 800FSB w/ DDR400 to actually do 400MHz? If so, what memory did you use? I'd really like to know what the real world experience is out there. thank you in advance!

Hey guys, how come the 400SC ships with 128mb PC2700 Rams? The cpu suppose to run at 400 fsb... if they have pc2700, then it either cause the CPU to run at slower speed or the rams to overclock.

It sounds like a lot of you don't have experience with Dell's hot deals. They keep very little inventory on hand, so when they have a deal like this and many people order, it's going to take a while to fill all the orders. The price you pay for a great deal is that it may take a couple of weeks (or more) to ship your order. They're generally pretty fast if you order something at semi-regular price, but when demand is overwhelming, you're just going to have to wait.
