For those of us who got in on the order, how long does it usually take from placing the order (9/2) to when the order is actually shipped out of the factory?

They claim the dedicated team will make your orders get prompter attention, but the truth is that your orders NEVER go through quickly again, and frequently you have to call them just to get the orders out of limbo!

How many of you are frequent buyers with a "dedicated" set of Dell support people?

(I even emailed my lead support person yesterday, and predictably have not gotten a response).

I agree in that you need to "stay in touch" with the reps ...I don't have any dedicated favorites ...but, I've had to call back to talk to different ones ...until I got the answer that I wanted to hear. Be persistant, but not aggressive ...it's not worth the self-aggravation. Be positive ...not paranoid.

I've had several Dell purchases where I got the first email and not the second one and everything was okay ...sometimes it was a backorder situation (WD1200 hard drive) ...once it was a "we're not going to sell digital cameras in the future and we won't be getting any Canon G5's" and once the thing did in fact go south. But, ultimately they made "good" on the deal~ My advice is to call them ...for the most part they want the sale and they want to keep you as a customer ...they might offer you a similar "deal" on something else.

You're right. I guess I'm just being paranoid.

Mail-In Rebate Offer
  • ? $100 Mail-In Rebate #42306! Redeem after system purchase at www.dell.com Special Offer

Follow-up post by: Lanyap
You missed my point. I have ordered several Dell systems (4500, 4550, 600SC & 400SC) during the past year and they all advertised a rebate in several places on the website. This deal did not. I know they changed the rebate process to add the specific rebate offer number to the invoice and use a generic rebate form a few months ago.

Original question posted by: Lanyap
About the rebate. Does anyone find it odd that Dell did not list the rebate in any of the normal places. It only shows up in the configuration details after you add it to your cart. I don't think I've seen them do this before.

OP has been updated....

To CherryBOMB and anyone else that wants to sell their 128MB DDR400 ECC memory. I am looking to purchase the 128MB DDR400 ECC memory modules from those of you that choose to upgrade. Here's how to identify which memory your system has before you receive it.

Once your system is built/shipped, go to the System Details & Warranty page (you will have to log-in to your Dell account). Enter your service tag number and click on the hotlink "System As Shipped" (you can also simply use the following URL by adding your service tag to the end "http://support.dell.com/MySystems/Details.aspx?SvcTag= "). If your "System as Shipped" invoice shows the following:

1 - G2529 - Dual In-Line Memory Module, 128, 400M, 16X72, 8K, Error Correction Code, 184

... then I am interested in buying it !

Dell typically uses Crucial (Micron) memory, and in some cases uses Samsung memory in their systems. Costs by vendor:

$86.95 - Dell.com (currently has free shipping, 15% off Dell Home, no tax in many states!)
$67.00 - ComponentsDirect.com (outdated listing for Samsung at $49.00/$4.00 shipping, on Pricewatch)
$61.99 - Curcial.com (currently has free shipping)
$61.99 - NewEgg.com (currently has free shipping)

I was wondering if anybody who got in on the 3.2 deal has had their order get into the later stages of production yet? Mine has been sitting in the production stage since it was ordered. I keep hoping it gets kitted sometime soon. It is supposed to ship on the 12th.

guys I was in the same boat as you guys I ordered the 4th and went to the production phase right away but didn't do anything until just now 11 pm Eastern time. I am now finally kitting. I really hope that they weren't out of the motherboards and that they got in those agpless motherboards the rumors have been talking about. I will be so upset.

...yup, all those servers that come back from D_ell customers are placed into service for anyone of the Anandtech customers who check their orders...and the latency issues can be related to that practice. Don't send back these machines without those essential peripherals like hard drives and memory...it just comes back to haunt.

? they wouldn't actually put a returned computer out as a new one would they? I would be more than a little pissed, although it would probably ensure me an agp slot.

Yep, the rebate form is generic now and the same one they have used for the past several months. They get the real offer number from your packing slip.
