Jumped off the fence and bought one with the 3.2 option.

Couple of questions...(which probably have been asked before)

The 3.2 chip runs on 400FSB, why do they give you 333mhz memory?

Can I run non-ECC and ECC memory together?

Just got me one. With 10% off coupon, it came to $470 AR shipped. Great deal.

Was originally waiting for a 2.4GHz 4600 deal to come my way, but this is even better. With 3.2 GHz, I don't need to buy a new mother board to overclock it, and no need for a new case either to house the new mother board. And since it's not OC'ed, the CPU and ram operate in sync, better performance for me.

Now all I need is some good 512 mb of DDR400 sweetness and a nice graphics card.... Anyone knows any hot deals?

Is there a way to purchase servers on the home side of Dell? I want to use a dell credit card but they cancelled my last order because of no business license number?!?! Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I used my name in the business name field but they called me and then cancelled because I didn't have a business license number

There's a poorly substantiated rumour that they dropped the AGP slot ...hard to believe.

They did not drop the AGP slot. OEM's don't just change motherboards like that, it would be too much of a problem. I already have 2 400SC's, built over a month apart, and the components didn't change then, and they won't be now.

That said, please read the my FAQ before posting a question... most of the answers are there if you look.

This is a very HOT deal! There is no way Dell is making any money on these...

Excellent deal no doubt. L@@ks like Dell is trying to make their sales #'s for the quarter on servers.

Me thinks, though I may be wrong there will be even better deals later in the month depending on how many of these they can sell now.

I'm not saying they will, but keep an eye out as this deal out does the last one & there may be an even better one coming up!

They always say that because they (Dell) DOES NOT support the AGP slot on servers. They said the same thing over the last month and every single one (look at the treads on F@twallet) received the AGP board (same as the Dimension XPS and 8300 - different BIOS only). No reason to change the boards now! :Q

I got in on this. A friend wanted me to find the best system I could for $500. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised

I wonder if it'd be even better though to part out and sell the processor, and substitute it with a 2.4ghz 800mhz fsb P4? Could probably sell the proc for $500 and the 2.4ghz are just $175. That's a $325 difference, and I could use it to buy some more RAM for the system. Anybody have thoughts on this? What are the chances of selling the 3.2g for $500 and is there anything real funky about Dell servers that would prevent a processor swap/memory upgrade? Doesn't look like it from the above FAQ, but I guess it can't hurt to ask.

i am just gonna pull the 3.2 and stick a 3.06 in its place throw in 2 X 512mb of pc2700 $25.00each after rebates, stick in a Maxtor 160gig 8mb cache drive i got for $100.00 a month ago, throw in a CDRW that was free from OM a month ago and sell the whole thing on ebay.

LOL I just called My Dell REP. and HE said Yes this MB has a AGP slot on it,This was sited from My Order Perchase # From today 400SC 3.2
