Anyone have more information on the buy back program? Is this only valid if you talk to the live support on their site? I've talked with two CSR's and one had no clue about this program and she is in the Small Business group. The other, also part of the SB group, said that was something that happened before but because of others taking advantage of it, it is no longer offered. Someone at the other site said that they got the OK from someone on the Live support on their site just today.

It seems that there are too many stories floating around saying either yay or nay on the buy back program. What guarantee that those that said that they would be getting money back will be getting it?

I know that some of you will say don't ever call, but ~$150 less through possible buy back is too much to be gambling with not getting.

Didnt even notice that. Now I will have to cancel and reorder. What a pain.

Nice find...I wish Dell would put a little more RAM in there; I doubt it would cost much more.

I purchased 2 sticks of dell branded memory(256mb ECC 3200) for mine for only 110. Hoping that I can then return the 128mb stick but we will see if that will work or not. Otherwise I will just sell the 128mb stick for cheap.

For those that purchased during the most recent promotion period (400SC with 2.4GHz Celeron, 128MB DDR ECC 400MHz for $249 AR or similar, with upgrades), prior to the rebate purchase period ending the 400SC was offered with 256MB DDR ECC 400MHz of ram instead of the original 128MB at no additional cost.

Was successful in contacting Dell Small Business, and requesting an additional stick of 128MB DDR ECC 400MHz ram at no charge. Have the order configuration page (which is now no longer available as the mail-in rebate promotion has ended) saved, and the representative (including ID number and extension) I had the pleasure of speaking with at Dell Small Business. Both can be made available should anyone require such.

I got mine during that promotion, but I recall when configuring the system that if I selected the extra 128MB of memory, the $100 mail-in rebate was invalid.

My friend recently got one and tried to do get Dell to buy back, after I had told him my success when I got the 3.2 ghz back in September, but he had no dice, even after talking to the CSR that he had upgraded the RAM in his machine to a gb, and thus had no need for the 128 MB stick. CSR took about 10 minutes to check with her manager on the whole situation, and she was advised that they weren't allowed to do it on that "system configuration". So don't be banking on a buy back.

Captured 400SC configuration.

As can be observed, the option appears above the "256MB DDR, ECC, 400Hz, 2X128MB at a 128 price (mail-in rebate not valid)" option; the distinct difference being Dell Small Business changed the "256MB DDR, ECC, 400MHz, 2X128MB" option to be identical in cost as the "128MB DDR, ECC, 400MHz, 1X128MB" option. (if searching for logic in that reasoning on Dell's behalf, personally believe none exists)

I bought this system (2.8) about 2 weeks ago. Tried to get the buy back twice, didn't get it. So I gave up on that.

For Ram, if you live nearby a fry's, they have a kit of j1gig (2x512) ddr400 Kingston ram right now for $150-$20mir= $130+tax.

if you don't, shop.kingston.com is running a deal selling the same deal for slightly more, $161.99-$20mir = $141.99 and free shipping.

The case is extremely quiet. Like many others, you can't hear this rig unless it's dead silent in the room. there are enough slots to put 3 HD, 1 floppy, and 2 5-1/4 bay. But you need to buy extra rails for the third 3-1/2 slot, and also a controller card for a 5th drive.

I'm running it with 2 512mb sticks dual channel, added a 160 gig hd and a 120 gig hd, NEC 2510, etc...

very very sweet system for the price, just spend the extra money and it's still cheaper for this kind of quality.

The rebate promotion has ended. rasputinj has not yet updated the original post and title, however. 400SC promotions (like many Dell offerings) are rather cyclical, and often reappear at a later date.
