there are unique stackable 10% off coupons that can make this hotter. Nonetheless I would rather pay for the 40gb and get the free second as their prices are just too inflated.

Very nice deal! Don't have the money, but I *NEED* (read: want badly) to have one!!! Tell you what, you pick up one of these and if you are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area, I'll trade ya straight up for a Compaq 4500 Rack Mount with extra drive array............ C'mon, someone wants it. *Cough* oh, sorry, thought I was in For/Sale/Trade forum for a sec.

2 USB Ports, 1 Serial Port, NO AGP Slot (only 5 PCI Slots).

It's a server, not a game machine.

I'm searching, but does anyone know what the maximum RAM this system can hold is? I assume it's high, but I'm not sure how high. It takes Registered PC133 (and I have a Gig of it just sitting around )

This is a very nice deal here, the website states that the motherboard holds up to 2GB of ECC SDRAM. :Q

I believe that the Celeron based server comes with ECC PC100. This information is on the tech specs. tab for this server. You can probably use either memory speed as long as they are the same speed sticks.

Where are you reading that this takes "Registered PC133"? I've only seen ECC PC133 on Dell's site.

Not reading it. I just know Dell well enough to know that they always want registered RAM in their server lines. I'm not sure if the server would flake out if you dropped some unregistered RAM in it, but you're right. You would need ECC in there as well. I don't know much about the lower-end servers cause all we run at work are 1U and 2U Xeon PowerEdges (1550s, 2550s,1650s, and 2650s). If you ever get to see the 1650s and 2650s, they're cool cause they have an active bezel. They light up real pretty and blue!

Ohh yeah... More about the RAM. Dell Memory is usually the exact same chips you can get from Crucial. I placed an order for around $4000 of RAM a month ago from Crucial and the Dell prices were well over $8000. That's sad that Dell is over twice as expensive and it's the same EXACT modules.

I'm trying to talk my father into an upgrade for work and I would get his. Swap out the harddrives for a 40gig from my system (40gig raid0 to 80 gig raid 0 + spare 40). He gets a nice system and I get 200gigs of storage.

80g x2 in raid0 + 40g + 80g = enough space for a while.

About the memory:

The 500SC will only take up to 2GB of Registered ECC PC133 SDRAM. That's 4 x 512MB dimms.

I was hoping for 4 x 1GB, cause I have a couple laying around. Dammit!!!
