have seen the specs, but like I said, I was looking for someone with actual experience with this case, that could give me a feel for how much room there really is, how well things fit, etc.

It's the same case that the old Dells were made with. The beige ones during the time of P3 933 and such. I think it was a PaloAlto case.
Special prop powersupply, 2 fans (power supply, cpu). CPU uses the duct so no fan directly on the heatsink.... Im sure you have seen it!

Has this deal been getting colder? When I first looked, there were $250 instant rebates on some of the servers, now all of them are $200 or $100. Also it looks like some of the server base prices have increased. Maybe too many orders!

Same price on the 500SC for me. Make sure you click on the 'Astonishing Low Prices on Servers' link.

Wish I didn't throw away all my Dell mailers. I could have used a 10% coupon for this deal.

Last night at like 2am I was looking all over the house trying to find one. I was just sure I had one. I went ahead and ordered anyway. I figured someone would have it posted on the net if there was still a valid one out there. But hey I have been wrong before.

For me the hard drives put this over the top. I was going to build a server with some odds and ends parts I have and put my old 1.4 athlon in and put at xp2200 in my game machine, but this is just a file server and I could not stand having that good of a machine just serving files. Now I will just wait and build a second decent game machine, and I will never feel like my file server should be doing other things. hehe.... i won't be tempted to take it to a lan or whatever.

My confirmation email says it will ship on or before Oct 1st.

I clicked on the "Astonishingly low price..." link, and here is an example:

PowerEdge 1400SC
$899
($599)
[After $100 instant and $100 mail-in rebate]
Price includes 15% discount.

Before, the 1400 had a $250 discount, and yesterday it had a $200. Now it's $100.

Which model did you get? I can't decide between a 600, 1400 or 1500. I'd like SCSI, but don't really need it. But I like the case designs of the 1400 and 1500 a lot better. Arrghh!!!

I went the ultra cheapo route man. I got the 500sc. It will be $336 after the $100 MIR. They wacked me for taxes for some reason. Guess Indiana isn't one they take it for. I did go through ebates though, so that is like another $8 back or so. heh... whatever I will take it. lol

This is literally only going to be a file server/backup server. I am a graphics/web dev weenie and I will just use it to hold all my files and backups on. Like I am thinking of mirroring the files on the two 80gigs in addition to my weekly burn of things changed. $336 is REALLY cheap insurance for my biz to not lose client work. Plus it will free up some of the 240gig of space on my game machine. lol

Ditto, I jumped on the 500SC as well. The price point for the 1400SC was just a little high.

I actually bought 4 units. One is to replace my current Linux firewall/fileserver. Another is an internal server (may use it to host games). Another is for internal development projects. The last is a spare/gift/not sure yet but I like the 160GB.

I used a 10% coupon which got the price down to about $267 per unit (not bad for 160 gigs, keyboard, mouse, nic, 48X cd-rom). I tried to use the AmEx 5%, though it wasn't stackable with the 15% off. Anyone have any better luck? So, I bought it with the Chase StockBack card for another 2%. eBates was a final 2%. I got hit with 6% tax, so the final was about $1586 (15% + 10% rebates) - 4% in misc rebates = $1491 - $400 mail in rebates = $1091, or about $273 each, tax included.

For the fileserver, I picked up a Promise FastTrak SX4000 IDE RAID controller with 256MB onboard from another source. I'll run 4 80GB drives in RAID5, getting 240GB usable. Now I can sleep at night knowing that if another hard drives pulls a 75GXP impression on me I should still hopefully be protected.

Hope these work out!

Just got the e-mail - mine shipped. Ordered a 500SC with the two 80GB drives on Monday. Got hit with tax also, so it will be 336 after the MIR.

Did you have a Dell flyer with that 10% off or did you find it somewhere online? I looked all over last night online and could not come up with a 10% off. Man I swear I am never throwing away those flyers again. lol

I actually bought a 10% coupon from another forum, using PayPal. In the end, both sides won out. The seller got a little extra cash for a coupon he wasn't going to use. I got to save 10% minus the cost of the coupon, so I ended up saving money as well.

None of these servers have an AGP slot, because they are servers, not workstations/PCs. They are not meant for gaming or graphics work.

Now it's free shipping, $100-$200 off, and free second processor. Not nearly as good.

3 of four (one to my house) are in. Damn fine machines. Regged ECC sdram @133. 2 66/33 3.3 only pci sluts. 3 reg 33mhz pci sluts. Internals are the same as dimensions have been since at lest the 6/266 (first i saw it). Beatiful Black case, and the led panel is fresh for the modding (blue LED I'll send instructions to anyone that wants them, but if you have $.01 worth of brains you can do it fine.). There are 2 additional hd slots north of the floppy, and one more 5.25inch slot. Serverworks as advertised and an onboard ATI card. The 20G is NOT the 8mb cache, mine has 2x80s so I'll look. Everyone enjoy.

Yes this was a great deal. Makes a great file server, there is room in the tower for at least 5 drives.

If any one needs 128 meg ECC memory for this server drop me a PM. I have a bunch at $20 bucks each plus flat USPS. The standard config comes with 1 128 stick and there is a slot for 3 more sticks. I loaded up 512 in mine.
