Theres a whole chart on memory upgrades... so should be able to pick up a 2GB unbuffered DDR2 sticks for 70$ each... times 4 to get 8GB... :-D

How good are these AMD processors?

This would probably take non-ECC DDR-2 SDRAM. It would be really cheap to run if the CPU is any decent.

it takes ECC ram unless it was possible to swap it in another board that doesn't require it, kind of liek the old 939 optys

Many of these boards state ECC as a requirement but don't necessarily need it. Thinking of various other basic Dell servers (like the 400SC I'm using right now).

A quick search of Newegg shows a 2GB kit for $54

To get 8GB you have to use 2GB sticks... the cheapeast on Newegg was 65ish$ so I would look at 4 x 2GB sticks

hmmm....this is tempting.....toss in the 160gb drive, SATA DVD-ROM, and 512MB ram form another $40 to be $300 total! Anyone have experiences of using a server as a desktop?

According to Crucial.com this takes non-ECC memory. This does remind me a little of the 400SC deals. I think Dell is pumping up their end of fiscal year/quarter numbers again by selling their lowest end server at a very low price.

Your system supports ECC. You can put non-ECC modules into an ECC system, but be sure not to mix ECC and non-ECC modules within a system. Install the same type of modules that are already in your system.
