Dell pre-order on the Canon S200 digital camera, $289.10! S330, $335!

*realizing this is o/t; can't find a better thread to reply to*
Right now, Dell small business is doing their free shipping deal, and a couple of free upgrades for purchases. They say it ends 4/17.
And I have *almost* enough cash to buy a computer---almost.

Have they ever been known to extend free shipping or promotions beyond the expiration? If not, about how often do they run the free shipping deal?

oh.. and is getting dust in the lense of this camera really a concern? It retacts into the camera, and has a cover that protects it.

oh.. for those who ordered the s200, yes, you will have to wait.. but at least it will fit in your pocket when you get it

I don't see how the s200 is anymore pocketable than the s330... they are both a little deep to not fit in your pocket. 1.2 vs 1.1 inches thick.
In fact, for many of you this "-" is over an .1 inches .

well i just called em regarding my delayed s200. They said that the camera should ship on the 29th of april. However they said that this was an ESTIMATE(uh oh). Plus i forgot to ask them about the consent thing, oh wells what did you guys do? I just emailed dell customer service and gave them my consent through that method, no reply yet argh.

I have an A40 right now, but when I saw this deal (abliet a bit late, but still the last day) i ordered the s330 and was planning to return my a40.. now i read how people say it isn't pocketable, it is, it isn't... geeze which one is it? my friend has an s100, how much bigger is it than that? is the s330 closer to teh a40 or is it closer to the s100 ??

i might just go and cancel this and live with what i have right now, i dunno, i hate buying big ticket items. how hard is it to cancel dell orders?

I called to confirm that I still want the camera. I was told the new ship date would be May 5th, though the email I received said April 29. BTW, I placed my order on March 30th and was given a ship date of 4/13.

Just go to Canon's Powershot site for size descriptions. I'll say the S330 is smaller than the A40 (it's uses a canon battery not AA's which is a big space and weight saver). Width wise it's about one inch smaller (the biggest difference). I also prefer the S330 because it's metal versus the plastic A40 (both for aesthetic and useful reasons). Oh don't let the other's opnions fool you. This is pocketable, just not as pocketable as the slimmer and smaller s200 (therefore there may be a bulge).

the s200 people are just trying to give themselfs a reason for not spending the extra 45 bucks and getting the s330. Plus, the s330 is getting shipped first.

As for size, the s330 is .3x.3x.1 inches bigger. If you can deal with the 1.2 inches of depth in your pocket, its perfect.

I know there are people who carry 2 packs of cigirettes in their pocket, its smaller than that.

keep the A40 .. its a better camera.. takes 10 times better pictures than the S330 and less expensive too.. you are paying for the smaller size and cosmetics of

I've called them and I was told that it is a mistake on their site.
Dunno what to believe cause the CSR was pretty rude and didn't gave me any informations whatsoever.
BTW my ETA is May 21......

as with the differences between the S110 and S300, the differences between the S200 and S330 are pretty comperable. i think it just depends on your preference: could you use the extra 1x zoom or do you want a 'smaller & lighter' camera? for some ppl, the difference in size between the two is very noticeable. at least for me it is: i have an S110 and was playing around with my boss' S300, and i do notice the size differences (even if they are less than an inch's difference in size). i'd still prefer the smaller camera anyway, since i don't care much for the extra 1x zoom. but again, it's really up to your personal preference. both cameras take equally good quality pictures...

- as for the A40, i don't see how that takes "10 times the better pic" - the A40 seems more of like a budget/value line camera... :/

Alright, since everyone's throwing numbers around, I figured we should be more precise. The depth of the S330 is 31.5 mm or 1.24 inches... the S200 is 26.7 mm, or 1.05 inches, so the difference is roughly 15%. I know .2 inches doesn't seem like much, but when things are this small, the differences are magnified.

BTW, for comparisons sake, the depth of the Minolta Dimage X is 20mm (or .787 inches). If they could somehow get the zoom and image quality of the Canon's into the compact size of the DimageX, I'd pick it up in a second. 'Course, I'm sure it'd be pretty expensive.

I have the Canon S330 and it's very pocketable~..

However.. I Wouldn't pop it in my pocket tho..

I usually carry around a bookbag... or even a light jacket~ ...

I just received an email from Dell about another delay on my S200. I ordered on 4/1, and the emal said I had to contact them by 4/18 to keep the order in effect. Just a heads up for those of you still waiting. Here is the text:

We have reviewed your order # 805xxxxxx, and although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and we will not be able to ship your order until 4/30/02.
