The dell $25 and 10% off deal ends April 1st I belive. Regarding the Sony DSC-P50, it takes poor light pictures. To me at least a good digital camera is one that not only takes quality pictures in daylight, but also in total darkness. Imagine Resource offers the best camera reviews, much better than Steve's, they get into so much detail, you wont be shocked as to what it can and cannot do once you get the camera.

Canon's Powershot A20"
There is no Powershot A40 review on IR, but the A20 did well in low light, so the A40 would probably do even better..hopefully. Dell doesnt offer the A40, too bad.

<< The A20 had a little trouble in the low-light category, as we were only able to obtain a reasonably bright image at the eight foot-candle light level (0.88 lux) >>

Canon Powershot S300
There is no Powershot S330 review on IR, but the S300 did poor on low light, the S330 would do better since it has more controls.

<< The S300 was only average in terms of its low-light category, as we were only able to obtain bright, usable images as low as one foot-candle (11 lux). >>

Canon Powershot S30

<< The S30 offers full manual exposure control, which gives the camera excellent low-light shooting capabilities. The camera captured bright, clear images at light levels as low as 1/16 foot-candle (0.67 lux), although performance at its lowest ISO settings suffered slightly from the 15 second maximum shutter time. >>

So after reading these reviews, the S30 is the clear winner until there is true S330 review, then the S330 and the S30 would prob both be excellent choices.
Does DELL offer money back if you use the a camera from them?

For me, I bought the S330 and will get two extra batteries and a 256meg CF card. Thanks for all the help everyone, this is a truely amazing offer.

i would think the s330 will do better in low light i hope... it gets the iso50 from the higher end lines. And average is still ok, so long as it's not poor. my big concern is CA

I had a Sony P50 (sold it) and a Canon S110. The S110 wins hands down.

Size - Canon wins. The S110 is literally the size of a box of cigarettes. Being so small you can carry it in a shirt pocket, and you'll find yourself carrying it and using it a lot more than a typical camera. Even though size wasn't high up on my list of features, I've found that once you've lived with an S110, anything else becomes too cumbersome to use -- even the S300/330

Point-and-shoot - Canon wins. ...Isn't this why you'd buy a small digital camera? Remember, you're not buying an SLR replacement. The auto-settings on the S110 work 95% of the time. The P50's auto settings produce good results on 50-75% of the time.

Picture quality - close, but Canon wins. Even though the P50 produced slightly sharper images, photos taken indoors/in low light situations were grainy -- even with the flash. This is a problem with Sony video cameras as well (at least with my TRV-330 anyway). The S110's photos were a little softer than the P50, but the colors were more vivid.

User settings - Sony wins. Would you really play around with ISO settings if the auto-setting did its job? Even though the S200 has more controllable settings, I'll bet you'll never use them after the novelty factor wears out. If you're really into tweaking settings for the "perfect shot", you're better off getting a Canon G2 anyway.

BTW, I paid ~$210 for the P50 (after MIR) & $311 for the S110. For me the S110 was worth the extra $100 once I'd compared both for a month.

EDIT

Forgot to mention P50 does NOT come with a rechargeable battery. The soon to be realsed P50 replacement is smaller and will come with a battery + charger (I think) -- should be out soon.

Empire_DNH - I think they both have superb picture quality. So it all boils down to SIZE.

I loved the S110, so the S200 is the natural choice for me.

Since I'll be posting 99% of my pictures online (website and e-mail), I don't need 3 megapixel, 2 is just perfect. If you plan on doing a lot of printing then get the S330.

I just think it all boils down to size.

Empire_DNH,
from my knowledge, at least for the differences btw the S110 and S300, the cameras are essentially the 'same'. it's just the 3x zoom on the S300 and the 2x zoom on the S110 that differ; oh, and the body size of the cameras as well. i have the S110 and i love it (actually i placed an order for the S200 so the S110 will either be returned or put up on ebay sometime soon ). i've played with the S300 as well and it's pretty good. i mean, if you care more about the extra 1x zoom, then by all means - go for the S330. if you want something 'smaller' and 'lighter', go for the S200.... it's hard to believe (or maybe it's just me), but after playing around with the S300 and S110, i've come to like the S110 more because it's smaller and basically has the same capabilities. i guess it just depends on your preference and 'how big your hands are' as well... i'd try to check out both cameras (or at least the S110 and S300), to get a feel.

- i was under the notion that the S330/S300 is only 2.1megapixels - are you mixing that up with the optical zoom maybe? - S330/S300: 3x opt zoom. S110/S200: 2x opt. zoom. Both cameras are 2.1mp cameras though.

How much smaller is the S200?
S200 is: 87.0 x 57.0 x 26.7 mm
S330 is: 94.8 x 62.5 x 31.5 mm

about .2~.3 in in all dimemsions

and for those of you who don't think that little difference is much.. it really is. i was happy w/ the size of an s10 way back when.. but the 2x optical just wasn't enough for me.... sure, it's just a little more reach, but i like that reach. But either way, i ended up getting the s200 later, one will go back.. i'm pretty set on the s330... but i'd like to play w/ the s200 too

I decided to get the S330, but did anyone else notice that the connectors are different for each model? The S330 has separate connectors for A/V out and Digital, while the S200 combines them. In fact, the digital connector on the S330 almost looks like a firewire port, although it isn't advertised as such. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it works as such, although I won't be counting on it.

I had an S100 (hated the colors on that one), an S10 and then tried an S300.
While a good camera, the S300 had POOR focusing, i.e. you never really knew what it was focusing on. Being an SLR user, I'm used to aiming at what I want to be in focus, half depressing and then recomposing the shot.
What's seemingly GREAT about the S200 is that it now let's you do that.
I wasn't very impressed with the quality of the x3 zoom on the S300. Maybe because of these focus problems...but x3 picture was really soft.
I just got an S200 that will supposedly shop on Wednesday !

budster,

The digital connection on the 330 is USB. They've gone from proprietary connections to industry standard connections which is a good thing -- I've seen similar connections on several digital cameras & camcorders.

That is absolutely right. There is no difference especially in terms of print size and quality.

Is it a good deal to use the 10% and $25 for the Kodak DX3600 for $244.96? I'm just trying to determine which camera is the best deal at Dell. Most of these cameras have a lot of similar features (S-200, Sony P-50, Kodak DX3600) so I'm just trying to decide which one is the best deal without just jumping on the bandwagon (unless of course the S200 is the best deal) .

Thanks.

If size isn't my top priority, is there any reason to get the s330 instead of the s30? Is the s330 a superior product? The extra 1.0 MPixel may come in handy, but the s30 is $424 at Dell.com with 10% and $25 off.

The A20's pictures were much sharper than the S300's..

it looks the same between the A40 and S330.(steves-digicams.com)any comments ?

i like the A40 for its

1. manual settings(The A40 allows you to control the aperture and shutter speed in manual mode..)
2. price,
3. optional lens extensions
4. and mainly the AA batteries.

how do the batteries on the S330 fare?? will it be a problem when travelling?

i am leaning towards the S330 because of its robust body, size, its make(made in japan??) and mainly on the DELL deal..

i have had no experience with ELPH cameras

and what does "Perp" in "PowerShot S330 Perp Digital ELPH Kit" stand for? (at the dell site)..

any suggestion ? .. i need to decide before the deal ends!!

- if you want to print bigger pics or display images with more detail, go with the S30 @ 3megapixels. if you just need a nice camera where you'll occasionally print and you do not care too much about the detailed aspects of the quality, go with the S330.... btw, my dad got the S30 for 419$ shipped from harmony computers --- there wasn't any apparent problems ordering from this reseller either. NOTE: they are on backorder as of now...

I believe my coworker also ordered from Harmony for 417 shipped last week. It came in fine, no hassles. We played with the camera before lunch.

Thanks for the good deal, I just bit the bullet and ordered the S200, got for the same price as everyone else, plus the next day shipping for free. Hopefully this camera is as good as everyone says it is.
