Dell pre-order on the Canon S200 digital camera, $289.10! S330, $335!

whoo! got my s330! shipped yesterday, got to Santa Cruz at 10:30 this morning... I placed my order on 3/29 but I forget what my estimated ship date was... the weird thing is that they haven't charged my AMEX blue yet =\

Wife just called to tell me I got my S330 today, it was at the front door when she got home.

I never received a shipment notice via e-mail.

My order status page still shows InProduction with a expected ship date of 4/12.

From my experience with Dell, they mean absolutely nothing. Might as well start a lottery and you'll have the same chance of getting it right.

Finally~!! I got mine today at 3pm central time (Chicago). I literally stood by the door waiting for it, hehe.
First, I knew it would be bigger than the s110 n s200, and looking at it now, I think I would prefer the smaller size of the s200. Before I purchased the s330 online, I bought the s110 the day before at best buy (just my luck!) This is my first digital camera so I'm not into the specs too much, but for the same price, I opted for the better, newer camera~ I like it~ Now onto the accessories...

Similar situation to AU Tiger for me. All day long, no email, order status page said it hadn't shipped, estimated date of 4/13. But when I came home, there was my lovely new S330. (ordered 3/29) First thoughts (charge already, dang battery):
It is surprisingly noticably larger than the S110. However, it still fits in all the same pockets, just a little more snugly.
Seems subjectively heavier. (already unloaded my S110 so I can't say for sure)
I love the new D-pad and extra buttons over the S110
The finish is very cool.. it seems to drag at your fingertips but still seems velvety smooth. I like the ridges around the lens a lot.

Lucky to all you guys who got S330. I ordered on 03/27 (just pass the midnight of 26), and have been told that S330 is still back order. Not sure when mine will be shipped if it will ever be. I still don't know how Dell select to ship items. It supposes to be based upon when the order came in, yet it proves otherwise from my experiences.

Finally got some pictures in. The camera takes excellent shots, clear and with very nice color. I never got such great shots with my s10, they must of improved on the CCD. It is very heavy for it's size but it feels much more strudy that way. Didn't think about that, but it doesn't bother me much. Here's some shot of my beloved s10:

For some reason it does great shots with shiny things. The s10 would get too much reflection and without the flash it looked awful (probably the aided by the iso).
Oh watch out for the card release, had the card fly out and hit my desk hard the first time to pull out the CF card (very springy)

hate to be the bringer of potential bad news, but just a few days ago i searched for the s200 on mysimon.com and a few vendors were taking preorders for the camera. one was tristate camera, which had a 4/10 release date, and harmony computers had a 4/16 release date. now tristate has a 4/28 release date and harmony has a 4/25 release date. another vendor now has a 4/30 release date. so even though a few weeks ago i was pretty psyched about the camera coming out this week, i now have my doubts. :T

Got my camera today. First impressions - pretty good. Since it is dark, all I can take for now is night shots.

Some initial observations:

The LCD display at the back is very grainy... I'm not used to it. It's not the worst I've seen (earlier Kodak models), but it is far from clear. I'm more used to my Olympus which has spectacular LCDs. It could be grainy because of the darkness I think, but when I compared it with my Oly, the oly came out clear. After you take pictures though, the display is clear and accurate. But while viewing through the LCD, leaves a lot more to be desired. The good news though is that it can probably be fixed via firmware upgrade (I think).

Night shots without flash (slow shutter speed) - unbelievably sharp (must be the intelligent noise reduction working), but the colours are a bit off (in my opinion). I compared it with my olympus again. The olympus was great at picking the colours, but lacked sharpness. The Canon however, was amazing.

Now, just have to wait for the sunlight to come up and I'll try some day shots. Still can't work out how to control the shutter speed though... perhaps I'll have to read the manual

man.. i'm really beginning to think that i should have gotten the s200. do u guys think that if i called dell, i could return the s330, and order the s200 w/ the same discount??
the size wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't so heavy. on top of that, i have tiny hands~ hehe.... so it matters~ But i have been comparing it with the sony dsc-p1, and i like the canon better.

I'm having a very hard time deciding between the S200 and S330. I'm kind of concerned about the difference in zoom, cause I might be needing that. Basically I just want to be sure that the image quality is the same for both. Are there any differences I'm not noticing?
