Wow, that sucks, I was told that only the e6500's had that resolution. I spent about $200 more than I should have.
EDIT: Should I return my laptop? I'll be downgrading the processor and ram, but I'll get 64-bit windows, blu-ray, better graphics card, and a larger hard drive for $200 less.
I would go from a latitude e6500 to a studio 15. I bought it last week so I need to make a decision quick.
Tough choice, as I think that Latitude is probably a higher quality laptop. Is it your primary computer? What about battery? How important is the graphics and Blu-Ray? How much of a downgrade on the CPU? The RAM and HDD are pretty easily and cheaply remedied, and I think you can get a 64bit install disc for maybe $10 or so (possibly free or just cost of shipping even), of course you might wait if you qualified for the free Win7 upgrade.
I would go from a T9800 to a T9600, 4GB of ram (1 stick), to 4GB of ram (2 sticks), 32bit to 64bit, dvd burner to bluray burner, no finger print scanner, nvs160, to ATI 4570. 250GB to 500GB (both 7200rpm). Both 9 cell batteries.
I use my computer for motion graphics. I do photoshop work, and after effects work. I've worked with video files with resolutions of 5120x768, and 4080x768. I need power.
The CPU difference would be mostly negligible (just 130Mhz difference, same cache, FSB, TDP). In fact, if photoshop makes use of 64 bit well you'd likely make up the difference in speed there. I'm not a photoshop user myself, but I was thinking they had been getting improvements via utilizing the GPU, in which case you'd definitely want the better GPU. The memory will really only be an issue if you feel you need to upgrade it, but it would add some cost/hassle but probably not too much (and I don't know that you'd need to).
I'm not familiar with either one on battery life, and I don't know how relevant that is to you.
I had a Studio 15 early this year and it was pretty solid, although I'd guess the Latitude is even better, but I think the specs would definitely help you, and the Studio 15 is far from bad, so I'd probably recommend it.
