I have a 2005FPW that i bought in July 05. For the past few months i noticed that a semi dark band had formed down the left side of the screen. Not enough to really annoy me but noticeable on light colors. Finally today i bit the bullet and called their CS and hoped for the best. After no more than 10mins I had confirmation number of a brand new one being sent to me that im supposed to get either Monday or Tuesday. Sure i spoke to someone in India but he had very good english and had no hassle.

And yes i want a cookie.

I had a very good experience with them as well in the last few months. I had to have a computer (job-related) and needed it ASAP and paid for overnight shipping (Round Rock to Houston). I needed to make sure it arrived in time.

Well, they shipped it Ground and I got it the next day but it was stamped Ground (not Overnight). I called them and they gave me back the extra I paid for shipping since they didn't pay for Overnight themselves. It took talking to a couple of Johns and Jims and Bobs but the shipping was taken off of my account. It only took a couple of hours for them to understand why I called. LOL

I must also admit to having a good experience with Dell tech support. The tech support was very nice and polite and reassuring. Very efficient too. Solved my problem in a short amount of time.

I would not have refunded your money you paid for next day you got next day.

I paid $200+ for overnight. There were Ground shipping stickers on the boxes. I NEEDED it the next business day. If there had been Overnight stickers I would not have had a problem at all.

Wow, soudns exactly like what happened to me. I had a 2005FPW with some barely noticable (but still annoying) squiggles on the left side of the screen. I called up Dell, they overnighted me a 2007FPW.

How does your 2007FPW compare to the 2005?

That's the "good" not stripped down version 2007, right?

But you did get it next day. You paid fro next day you got next day. When i use to send computer parts out from multiple whse. With Ingram if a customer paid for next day i would just ship it from the closest warehouse to him so he would get it next day. If i thought it would miss mthe day i would increase it to 3 day or 2nd. day. You got to love drop shipments. $$$$ in my pocket.

You just don't understand it from my POV. I HAD to have it the next day. That's the whole reason why I paid so much for it to be overnighted. Them shipping it by Ground has a much higher chance of it not getting here overnight. Ground from Round Rock to Houston is 3 - 5 days and even though they're just a few hours drive from me doesn't mean it will get it here next day. I've ordered other systems from them and watched it sit (watching online) for a couple of days before it was actually shipped and I usually get systems from Dell in about 3 days here after boxing is completed. Not bad but not overnight.

If I paid for overnight then I should get overnight. If I want to pay that much extra that's for me to take care of.

ETA - Kudos to Dell!

Yes, its the "good" one.

The only problem with the 2005FPW was the backlighting (not a big deal). They have pretty much fixed that. It might have a slightly higher contrast ratio, but I can't really tell.

They only big difference is the stand. It is smaller, more visually pleasing, and it rotates easier than the old stand. BUT, the old stand went higher than this one. The highest setting has the bottom of the screen 5" above my desk, which is lower than I would like it.

does it say something sad about the state of customer service when we laud a company for replacing a defective product without hassling the customer who deserves a working product? isn't that what they're SUPPOSED to do?

edit: not a sermon, just a thought

Samsung impressed me in the same way. My original 970p's stand was "loose" in that the hinge was never able to hold the weight of the screen up more than ~2" above my desk. I wrote them an email asking if there was any way for me to somehow tighten things up a bit, and they messaged me back a day later saying they'd shipped out a replacement.

had a motherboard go bad in my Dimension 8200 desktop, I asked for a new mobo and it came with a technician guy, to save the guy time I told him exactly what the issue was and how I tested it etc, I got the board from him and exchanged it with the defective board and I was all set. Glad I didn't waste the guy's time and I'm sure hes thankful for that..

I wish I had ever dealt with Dell in a quick, friendly, helpful manner. I have found every contact with them to be argumentative and uninformed about the hardware. I have one monitor from them that the first replacement took over an hour on the phone. Then after the refurb died, it took 2 calls totaling over 4 hours to convince them it was really broken and to finally get them to ship me a new one only to have DHL make it disappear. Now, I am waiting for a response from Dell on the lost monitor and it is nearing 24 hours with no reply phone call or email (I sent both).

I don't quite think you are getting what he is saying.

He paid Dell to use the specific service called "Overnight Delivery". This is a very expensive service. They didn't use that. They shipped their standard shipping, and luckily it got there next day. It's not the fact that it didn't have certain stickers on it, it's the fact that a certain service was paid for and not given.

If this qualifies as a legit business practice to you, then please remind me to not do any business with you, because that's no different than pety theft in my book.

I was pleasantly surprised when I did an online chat w/Dell because my PocketPC cradle died. I'd had it over a years, and they sent out a replacement for free. I wasn't expecting that!

I have the same problem, except it's a dark band across the very top of the screen, I've just being ignoring it. Maybe I should call as well.

btw did they send you a new 2005fpw or a 2007fpw?
