Dell replaced Pentium with Celeron?

ummm....no, I dont think dlell has replaced all P4s with Celerons. Cant imagine the XPS would sell well w/ 6800Ultra, 1GB DDR2, Raptor Hard drive...and.....2.4Ghz Celeron.

on the commercial it says Dell Dimension 2400 uses Celeron. On the site it says Pentium. I'm sure the ad is newer than the site. Maybe they haven't updated it.

They could use either one. What's the big deal here? The cheap one in the commercial probably has a celeron, that's why the commercial said celeron.

The brand new 2400 I was just given for my office work has a 2.8 P4, btw.

Dell has offered the option of using Celeron's or P4's when you buy your computer from them. Since 95% of Dell's are made to order (They don't prebuild), the customer selects which processor they want to use in their system before it's built.

Actually, the process is a little more involved than that, but that's the short and simple answer. You saw a commercial advertising a Dell model that offers a Celeron option and haven't discovered anything revolutionary.

If the commercial only advertises cheap celeron computers, they say celeron. If at least one computer on the commercial has a P4, then they say Pentium. Simple as that. Guess they are trying not to mislead anyone.

The new Celeron Ds are a lot better than the old Celerons, but that's not saying much. A Duron 1800 beats all the old Celerons...

Not all people are hardcore pc users aka gamers and video editors. So a celeron is perfectly ok for surfing and the like. Heck any CPU above 800 mhz is fine for most people
