Dell Sales Tax Question

I want to get the Rebel XT but the $50 sales tax is really killer. How does sales tax work exactly?

I live in Ohio, which Dell taxes. Dell doesn't tax South Dakota however.

Does sales tax depend on where the order is being shipped to or where the order is ordered from?

It its the latter, I was thinking about getting an SD friend to order the camera to me and change the shipping address to mine.

If the former, I was thinking about him ordering the camera for me and then just spending $10-$15 to ship it to me once he gets the package.

if you are ordering such an expensive camera, then $50 sales tax shouldnt be an issue.

also, your friend will become liable for the camera when it is in his hands. just my 2 cents.

$50 still would kill a deal... i'm with the OP. cheaper is always better.

It goes by where the item is being shipped.

Dell charges sales tax in states where it has warehouses....thats the law. And they determine whether to charge tax according to where they ship. So unless you can have it shipped to someone in SD and then have them ship it to u for cheaper than 50 bucks then u r out of luck.
