Well, yes and no (in reference to "... they actually spent time considering.... " comment).
This is like the umpteenth time Dell has done this. They [inadvertently?] post a super hot deal - usually involving a rebate - only to pull it in a few hours after being barraged with orders. The scenario then usually goes something like this:
1. initially they "play" dumb;
2. then they state it was an "error";
3. followed by the classic "the rebate/both rebates are not valid - you may cancel your order" e-mail message;
4. then after a large number of cancellations, the "oops! We've decided to honor the rebate/both rebates" message.
5. this is followed by the long order delay (hoping more will cancel - which they will), subsequent "you must respond or your order will be cancelled" messages (hoping some will fail to respond - which some will), and repeatedly pushing back the projected shipping date (hoping yet more will cancel - which they will).
Anyone remeber this happening with the Radeon 8500 Pro two years ago, or the WD 120GB 8MB Special Edition harddrive last year (both of which - btw- were Sep/Oct hot deals) ?

You've got to love Dell - they actually spend time "considering" this kind of issues and in the end decided to take a loss and keep us customers happy. My order hasn't shipped so I was disappointed with the first email, but really saw no reason to be mad - $20+ for a 200GB hard drive would be super nice to have but you know someone is losing a lot of money on it. Anyways, I guess everyone should be happy now, since they set the window to 9/25-9/27, that pretty much covered all the orders I would think.
