I saw this over at techbargains

999 is not to bad of a price for DLP projector that has hardware de-interlace and support HDTV at 480p, 480i, 720p and 1080i.

2100MP

oh uh 1000 ANSI lum

I just did some searching around for P-VIP lamp replacements. 300 a pop seems kinda high for a bulb that is rated for 2000 hours.

this is a great deal, but used more for mobile presentation it seems, and not so much if you're planning to use it for home movies.

That review is for the 3200MP, not the 2100MP.

I can answer any questions you guys may have on these projectors.

No, the 3200MP is a higher res unit (XGA vs SVGA) but the 2100MP may fare better in subjective tests for movie viewing. The key for the 2100MP is its value for the price - it probably doesn't compete with the really high-end home theater projectors out there but its strength is what you get for the price, where it is pretty much unmatched.

There are no DLP projectors to my knowledge that run for $1k or less. And definitely none that offer even close to the 2100MP's featureset.

I'd save your money and buy an X1 or if you are into movies a Z1
Spending 300-500 more will be worth every penny in the long run.

1000L will be more than enough in a low-medium lit room. And the Contrast ratio of this thing is stellar - easily in the upper 98% of projectors out there.

The X1 is a nice unit but it looks and feels cheap, not to mention it is huge. The 2100MP's shell is all magnesium (as opposed to X1's plastic) and is only 4 lbs (vs. almost 7lbs for X1). I guess this doesn't really matter if you just plan on mounting it in a room and doing nothing else with it, but if you want any mobility, the 2100MP has it beat.

300 bucks is not bad for the lamp...Considering my old LCD Sharp I had cost about 50 bucks more then that. You could always get one on e-bay but, you got to remember that the lamp fades out over time and won't be as crisp as a new one. So make sure you trust your ebay source if you do buy one from there.

Anyway... Anyone that has one, have they worked out the rainbow effects with the DLP technology yet? What about FAN noise? Gotta keep that high wattage bulb cool. How loud is it? Also, is this thing ceiling mountable?

Thanks!

The image isn't necessarily going to get less crisp over time, just less bright. Lamp life is defined by the point at which the lamp hits half its original brightness.

Rainbow artifacts haven't been worked out yet, but have been improved with the 2X color wheel (which the 2100MP has). Fan noise on the 2100MP is about 32 dB which is very low, and yes, it's ceiling mountable. You can either buy a mount on the Dell site for it or buy one from Chief (supposedly makes the best mounts in the biz).

so VERY tempted. But I'm not sure how good it'll work in the room I want to put it in... I wish I could test it out at least, but Dell seems to have a 15% restocking fee for software and peripherals

Not sure if that restocking fee applies to Dell-branded peripherals. May want to check just to be sure.

Even at 999 this thing is an awesome deal. I can pretty much guarantee that after this promo the 2100MP will return to 1299 and never come back down.

Do any of these projectors let you hook up a progressive scan dvd player via component connections to get a 480p image out? Many of them state HDTV but not SDTV or EDTV. Does it only work with 1080i signals or will it make normal dvds from a progressive dvd player look good?

This one (and others with hardware deinterlacing) do one step better. You can even have a non-progressive scan DVD player and get 480p progressive-scanned out. And the quality of progressive scanning (same thing as deinterlacing) on the projector is much better than most DVD players. But if you chose to use a progressive scan DVD player, yes, the projector will accept and display the 480p signal from it just fine. I tried comparing the progressive scan on a highly rated JVC DVD player to this projector's progressive scanning, and the projector does a noticeably better job. So you save money on having to buy a progressive scan DVD player with this thing too.

Remember- the aspect ratio on this is 4x3. If you are more into movies and xbox, then it would be better to get a 16x9 projector. If you are into computer/ games then 4x3 is better.

Plus the native resolution is only 800x600. Not very pleasing if you are using it for a computer monitor. 1024x768 should be minimum.
