Dell Server PE830 Broken CPU Clip

Hi all,

Looking for suggestions here.. I have a PowerEdge 830 server and one of the CPU heatsink retention clips is broken. I called Dell to purchase as the owners let the warranty lapse and their answer is buy a new board. These are $3 pieces of plastic and they want 300 for a board.. has anyone else ever run into this kind of stupidity?? After all, you need to take them off just to swap the board so it has to be some kind of line item one would think... Holding it down with a zip tie is not my idea of a solution.. I have looked online and they seem to stock them for other models but not this one..

Thoughts and suggestions welcome..

Thanks Mech, but no.. it is similar to those, but it is a two piece unit that has a swing arm that contacts the heatsink in the middle and a blue tab on the end of the arm. I am gonna take some pictures of it as soon as I can get back up there. I wish I could just swap it to one like that but the holes line up with standoffs that are permanent to the motherboard tray, so I can't move the position of the clips in any way. Just can't believe the runaround for such a small thing. I will try to find some images of them tonight....

Unfortunately I don't have a source for the part, but I am looking for one also and had the same frustrating experience with Dell.

What I can give is a bit more information:

They don't have a picture online, but if you look at the mechanical drawing I do believe it is the correct part.

There are several likely candidates on eBay for $120 or less (Buy It Now). Of course, just conducting a search for this stuff can easily cost the owners $300.

That'd seem like the most certain solution. At least one offering was brand-new and included the motherboard tray, all for about $120 with free shipping. I'd imagine it has the part you need.

I have the same problem as you had with a clip for th e heatsink and got the same answer from Dell - new mobo.
