Ouch that bites, thanks for the info though. If you look at it from another perspective we'll have an extra $100 to spend around Christmas time when our $100 rebate checks finally arrive in our mailboxes

Remember to:
1) Print your $100 rebate NOW.
2) Save the .pdf rebate form to your hard drive in case you need it later (I'll bet you that in several weeks or months ATers will be posting, "remember that Dell 4500 $100 rebate? Does anyone have a copy of it?" - It never fails)
2) Follow ALL the rebate instructions carefully or it may be delayed and/or VOIDED and you won't get your $100.
3) Make copies of EVERYTHING esp your signed completed rebate form and the UPC and invoice papers.
4) Send it USPS certified mail with return receipt yes it costs around $4 but it's worth that considering the risk is $100.

A question about the rebate. It showed up in my order acknowledgement email, but in the confirmation email and packing slip, there is nowhere mention about it. Is that a problem? What did you guys get?

I'm insanely sensitive to computer noise and nearly threw my homegrown athlon system out the window because of it. This system is remarkably quiet.

How does it run with only 128mb ram?

Fine. A little quicker with 256mb, but not a big deal.

The MX is like all other MX cards. It's adequate unless you're involved in a fragfest at 1600x1200.

Hey everybody! It's my first post!!!

I've been reading Hot Deals for quite some time, but I never joined because of the hotmail ban (i didn't want to give out my "real" address)

Well anyway, I just wanted to mention that I jumped on this deal yesterday. And I originally had the basic ATI Rage card but I wanted to upgrade to the GF4. I went through the options to see how much it would add to my order but I didn't start with the same system as before. This new system I was looking at had the GF4 MX as base and the Ti4200 was a $80 upgrade ($100 to upgrade from the Rage). So I sent them a message saying i wanted to upgrade to the Ti4200 for $80 bucks and guess what? They did it.

But I'm torn now... I'm not a real gaming enthusiast so I know the MX is all I need (for $20 extra). But $80 for the Ti4200 seems like a great deal. Any thoughts?

Also, I called them up today to ask if I could get a system without the built-in soundcard on the mobo because I already have a card I want to install, but you know what??? They won't do that unless I upgrade to their "Premium" soundcard option. Sounds like a load of crap to me. I know there won't be a problem adding the card anyway, but does anyone know if there is a way to deactivate the onboard sound or will both cards be processing the sound simultaneously? Is there any downside to that?

bassx88 - Thanks for coming out of the woodwork and finally becoming a Ferengi (Hot Dealer) welcome to the forums!

I would pay the extra $80 for the Ti4200 unless you can find it significantly cheaper elsewhere and want to install it yourself.

Regarding the sound, I would get built in integrated sound ... I'd think you should be able to turn this off somehow?

Sometimes happens if they can't get payment authorization. I've had it happen because of all the sh!t I buy here making my credit cards all crispy at the edges. Call them.

You only need the packing slip. I've sent in a number of dell rebates and they've all been accepted with just that.

Same here, 20 so far and no problems. All Dell rebatesspecifically state send only the packing slip. Sending an invoice along ith the packing slip will just confuse the rrebate rpocesing company and could delay your rebeate :Q

still debating on whether to do this deal, since I missed out

the questions I had were:

If I wanted to add a whole bunch of hardware to this system
(second HD, DVD/CDRW, zip drive) as I assume most of you
will be doing, will I need to call MS to get XP modification approval?

how easy would it be to add a larger HD and install XP Pro to that
and wipe out the XP home on the factory HD which would become a
storage slave.

is the G4 64 MB card worth $100 more than the ATI Rage for someone not into bigtime
3D gaming, just so I can get DVI out? I do have a Planar LCD which
takes DVI - will the video output be that much better between these 2 cards?

Got home at lunch and the infonotice was on the door. Called UPS to see what could be done about me getting the package today. The local UPS branch called to let me know they will deliver it this evening. I'm very glad to see there is still some good customer service out there.

Anyone know if the front headphone jack works without the integrated sound? If so, how does that front jack connect to the SB Live or Santa Cruz?

Now my biggest decision is to keep my current system (1.2gig Tbird, 1gig PC133, 160gigs HDs, 16x DVD, 241040 CDRW) as my main workstation or switch to my new 2.0gig P4 (as soon as I upgrade the ram).

but NO MENTION the order is from DELL SMALL BUSINESS...

this is my 1st dell, everything seems ok, no screw to open case and install PCI card
it's v. quiet

slap in a belkin PCI NIC and boom, off to internet..

I may CAN the xp home and installed xp pro or win2k.. what do u guys think ? :Q
can't get to the boated XP interface and junk software that dell bundle...


some disadvantge :

1. install another 7200 HD under the stock HD u got a fry pan, NO SPACE between 2 HD !!!
2. need to spray my beige cdrw and dvd into black to put in my dell...
3. only 1 serial port.. who needs 2 anyway ?

I've been looking for some jumpers or BIOS setting to control the CPU clock and can't find anything. I don't think you can overclock this thing.

WOW, I can hardly hear this thing over my refrigerator... this is easily the quickest/quietest computer I have EVER owned.
