Trying to set up Inspiron 1100 for $699 as Rasputinj posted but cannot get there.

Could someone please post the exact configuration because I cannot get it under $1000. Sorry to be such a thick head

Thank you.

Can anyone elaborate on the benefits of the "M" Pentium vs the P4 or Celery models of these laptops? I'm always surprised at the price difference, for instance, between a 1.4 M vs. a 2.4 P4 (the "M" always being a lot more expensive). And how do either of those compare to the Athlon Mobile laptops, in terms of GHz?

I mean, where's the big difference, is it:

Performance?
Power savings?
Integrated wireless?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Pentium M is designed from the ground up for mobile paplication. it's got a lower clock speed, but performs better than P4 in most applications

centrino also includes wireless technologies. look up some guides to learn more, that's hwat i did

have you tried it?
I did, and returned for normal P4.
It's Intel's marketing, cheaper but faster, yee...

no, but i looked at the benchmarks of independent websites. actually, i think the centrino is more expensive than P4

Centrino set could be more expensive, not CPU itself.

The pentium m is faster clock for clock...but who cares? A 3 ghz p4 will beat the snot out of any pentium m. I saw a review pitting a 1.4 ghz (1.5 maybe) pentium m vs a 2.2 ghz p4 and they came out pretty close. I'd much rather have a cheaper 3 ghz p4 than any overpriced p m. It's too bad you can't get the p4 on the 8600's anymore....

If you have a business notebook you won't get transferred to India for support.

In all seriousness, I ordered the Inspiron 1100 by phone for $878 AR ($200 MIR) and picked up a four year on-site warranty with it. I got the stock configuration which was more than enough. I won't be playing games on a laptop anyway. The only issue is the 256MB of RAM is/was 2 x 128MB DDR sticks, so you lose when if you upgrade.
