I saw some of those reviews, and they said it had problems displaying text below size 7.5. Doesn't really bother me as I never read text that small anyway. Also in the Cnet/ZDnet review they were comparing the 1901fp to some extremely high priced/professional LCDs.

I saw the Samsung 191T in person and I was just blwon away; the Dell 1901fp is supposed to be an even better monitor than this Samsung monitor. I say choose the 1901fp, but that's just my opinion.

Any suggestions for someone on the brink like me? ... I am really having trouble deciding whether or not to buy this 1901fp LCD at $467 (especially when it was $423 last month). On one hand I know Dell has these kind of deals almost all the time (well once every 3 weeks or so), but on the other hand I hear rumors (true or untrue) that LCD prices may be rising before Christmas.

Anyone believe that the price of the 1901fp is actually going to rise anytime soon?

The PC World review says: "The 1901FP rendered text best in our Microsoft Word and Excel documents; its text looked somewhat fuzzy on another screen showing various sizes of type."

The Samsung is the other monitor I'm considering. Where did you read that "the Dell 1901fp is supposed to be an even better monitor than this Samsung monitor"?

The AnandTech review says "If price is no object, the 191T is the best 19" LCD on the market.".

Which Samsung monitor are you talking about?

I have read both on this and other forums that many Dell LCD's are rebadged Samsung LCDs (and I'm almost positive that I read the 1901fp is a Samsung rebadge). The Samsung 191T I saw in Fry's a while ago had a 500:1 CR. The 1901fp Dell LCD has a 600:1 CR and 25ms response time. So (I am assuming) the 1901fp is a better/newer model than the Samsung 191T LCD I saw (perhaps it is a 192 rebadge?) , but since I don't know which Samsung LCD you are referring to I can't comment whether or not the 1901fp is better.

Edit: Ahh...after some searching here is more info...scroll down on this (previous 1901fp deal discussion) page and read opverclock's post.

I was referring to the same Samsung you mentioned, the 191T.

I assume this is the post you are referring to: "The Dell 1900FP, Dell 1901FP, Planar PX191, Samsung 191T and Samsung 192T are all based on the same panel."

If that's correct, does it mean all the monitors based on this panel perform identically or are there other factors involved in performance?

I just got an email today with a 10% off coupon for Dell Small Business... first one I've ever received, but I don't need an LCD. First to PM me gets it...

Edit: coupon has been claimed

Yest that is the post I was referring to. There is a link in that post to an Anandtech article on LCDs. So most likely the Dell 1901fp and the Samsung 191t will be right on par with each other (Dell may have inflated specs a little bit), so basically it comes down to which design you like better and which is cheaper.

If you use the compare feature at pcworld.com you get the following differences:

Quality of text/graphics: Dell - Good/Very good ---- Samsung - Very good/Very good
Measured horizontal viewing angle: Dell - 130 degrees ---- Samsung - 167 degrees
Rated power consumption: Dell - 75 watts, maximum; 3 watts, standby ---- Samsung: 40 watts, maximum; 2 watts, standby
Other features: Dell - Optional speakers, microphone jack, 4-port USB hub ---- Samsung: Color-adjusting software
