Dell sucks!

So I ordered a 2005fpw recently, and I found problems with it. Went through a few emails with dell reps (weird when each email is replied by a different rep with a slightly different direction in how they deal with your problems). So they said they would ship a new one to me.

Unfortunately, the new monitor is even worse than the old one, with more prominent dead pixels and for some reason, even using the same configs in dvi-mode, it seems much less vibrant than my old one (Do i need to config this monitor manually in color management?). So at this point I am resigned to keeping my old one.

But wait... they said since it is an exchange order, I would get a prepaid return waybill. Just my luck, someone forgot to include that in my shipment. Guess I'm going to have to pay for shipping myself? Then dell says I can check on my service status and gave me a long digited number. So I follow their instructions and go to the dell support site, surprise surprise, that service number they gave me isnt even found.

I have half a mind to just keep both LCD's since in their email it says:
"If the parts are to be returned, you will receive a prepaid return waybill." and I didn't.

lol nice link. i got my dell (using it now) back when they were only a few dollars more than building one yourself. the thing is loud as hell but it's still running. i guess dell isn't what it used to be.

so i've been playing with thte colors, i can't seem to make both lcds look exactly the same... shouldn't this be possible for 2 identical lcd models?

Maybe they replaced your new monitor with a dreaded "refurb"? A lot of companies do that. :frown: If they did and the refurb'd monitor happened to have a lot of hours on it before you got it, the backlights could have dimmed noticeably from their original brightness level. That could explain why it might not seem as bright as your original new one.

I'm not accusing Dell of anything -- I'm just mentioning this as a possibility. Perhaps there's a "manufactured" date on the back of the monitor? Or maybe its serial number could be researched and you could determine its manufactured date that way? Might give some kind of indication of how old it is.

My personal opinion is that Dell isn't what they were 5 or 10 years ago, but most of the computer manufacturers' customer service and tech support is so poor that Dell still usually leads customer satisfaction surveys [sorta the best of the bad, I guess? ]. Well, except for Apple, who smokes them all by a large margin in surveys (but then you pay a LOT of extra $$ for that support, so ....).

thats the deal with bigger lcds., its a lottery..a gamble. thats why its best to buy from a brick and morter store. if you have an inverter and a laptop u can even test em in the car before u decide to leave for home lcds don't need much power so a cheap inverters enough

Don't do e-mail, do their chat thing. It works much better in my experience. Make sure and tell them that you've had two bad ones and also you didn't get an waybilll to send the other one back

How long after you got the monitor did you contact them? The reason I ask is that they offer a 21 day total satisfaction guarantee, where they will send you a new item to replace yours, however many times within those 21 days. After that, though, they're very likely to send you a refurbed monitor.

always call. never email. thats just being intelligent. you cant argue very easily over an email conversation.

oh, and dell doesnt suck. they offer awesome stuff at good prices, and everyone can get a bad LCD sometimes. ive had a bad samsung and phillips LCD right out of the box. dont hate on them because of an inherent manufacturing flaw.

gl with this and try not to be so negative.

I have had horrible service on my old IBM A21 M, just horrible support and warranty observance. Then on to my Dad's Toshoba laptop that took 6 months for them to fix... they kept forgetting about it, or simply sending it back saying they'd done things they hadn't done. For this reason I bought a 3 year warranty from Dell... they're all crap as far as I am concerned. If I have a warranty and they don't live up to it then I can pursue them legally and believe me I will. So far Dell has been great so I'm not too worried yet. On the LCD, it's an idustry issue, it makes me sick that so many companies say that a semi defective LCD is ok for the consumer to keep. My rule is not to buy from any company with these practices. Vote with your dollar.

That sucks. I got my 24" LCD 1st one almost perfect. No dead pixels, just a scratch in the plastic casing. I didn't care enough to return it.

I'm quite happy with it. I got it 36 hours after i ordered it with standard shipping.
