I just got off the phone with dell, I was calling asking about the 2209wa. Its a 22" with an IPS panel in it. Well it's been hugely backordered. I ask if they have any other monitors that have an IPS panel and the lady got in touch with engineering. They leak to her that a 2410 IPS panel will be released in August. I can't wait.

I hope it isn't one of those 1920X1080 monitors that some companies put out to sell at a cheaper price. I would rather have the full 1920X1200.

The UltraSharp line is their "professional" line, so I doubt it will be 1920x1080. They already cover the 16:9 niche with the S2409W, a 24" 1920x1080 TN panel.

This. All I want is a reasonable IPS + 120hz, put the two together and bingo you have my money.

Exactly. I'd rather have a 24" equivalent of the 2209wa than Yet Another Expensive IPS.

There's no point, as an IPS panel doesn't have a 5ms response time.

Newer LCD TV's advertise response times of 2-4ms.

I've been thinking of picking up the HP for a second (well, new primary) monitor for a while.

Unless Dell can offer the Ultrasharp at a competitive price (the 2408WFP, S-PVA is still sitting at ~$440), say $500 or so, OR if it's 120Hz / LED backlit, it'll probably have mediocre sales. In other words, if it doesn't beat the HP in price or functionality, what makes it so special? Couple that with the assumption that the "enthusiasts" are probably running 30" monitors or 52" TVs, it just seems like too little, too late to me.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds like an excellent monitor, it's just going to really depend on the details and price.

It is highly unlikely that it would beat the HP LP2475w in functionality. The HP LP2475w is fully adjustable, has composite, s-video, double dvi, hdmi AND displayport, plus comes with the cables for ALL of them! That, along with the great panel is why TrustedReviews gave it 10/10.

If Dell put in a 24" e-IPS it could outdo the HP on price handily.

They either have IPS or VA so either way, there must have been an advance in lowering the response time unless they use RTC.

My 3008 has all those inputs and came with the cables so I wouldnt put it passed Dell to have those in the next gen screen.

Advertising is meaninnless. How are their response times measured?

I saw one spec for a 5ms display that once you read the fine print said that 5ms was 50% of the time required for the change.

I knew this would happen, right after I bought my second 2209WA.

But then again, I got my 2209's for ~$200 each. IF the 2410's are $400+, I probably would pass anyway. Dual 22" is already about as wide as my peripheral vision can take.

EDIT: For those who haven't seen it in the sticky thread... the 2209WA is most likely discontinued, with confirmation from Dell tech here:

It now seems to be more than a "rumor" . . .

It seems like Dell has ?indirectly? three days ago confirmed the existence of the forthcoming of a new display, the Dell UltraSharp 2410W.

Dell Forum Moderator ?Chris M? in a posting on July 14th, 2009 at 12:59 in a topic ?Dell Monitor Defective Pixel Policy? the following:

For UltraSharp flat panel monitors (for example, U2410, U2710, 2208WFP, 2408WFP), Dell will replace the monitor if it has ANY defective pixels as covered by the Premium Panel Guarantee.

Please note the mode number example U2410. URL for above:

http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19284439.aspx

And another item found on another forum there has been a Certificate No. 50153811 for a GS-Mark for a Dell u2410f, please see both URL below:

http://www.tuvdotcom.com/pi/we...and=&sLang=&searchbox=

http://www.tuvdotcom.com/pi/we...and=&sLang=&searchbox=

Also, note in the second UR, this new product makes use of the LM240WU4 panel, this is a LG IPS panel.

It is fairly obvious that with the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA, also an IPS monitor, that Dell was ?too aggressive? in pricing, and positioning this new 24? model is going to be ?tricky? as the closest competition is the IPS based HP LP2475w and Dell own S-PVA based UltraSharp 2408WFP. Moreover, this area could become even more competitive if the LG W2420P is imported to North America.

From another source, ordering should be mid-August, with delivery by late August.

Also there was a second ?hint? about another new model UltraSharp 2710W, is this the ?refresh? for the UltraSharp 2709W?

I think August 2009 is going to be real fun . . .

I beat you to the punchline, I posted these exact links a few days ago.

FYI, also the LM240WU4 indicates the U2410 will not be LED backlit.
