Well, FWIW, Dell has dropped the list prce for the 2408WFP by $30 but the model is still listed at the web site. The U2410 is easier to find today.

Just got this monitor and all I can say is that I am thoroughly impressed! First of all the packaging is a lot smaller than it use to be, but I don't think it weighs 26lbs like what Dell says. The stand looks a little gaudy on it's own but once the panel is placed on it, it looks fine. And wow, this thing is bigger than I expected! I'm so use to my 2001fp that it just feels so strange to have so much extra width. Overall I quite like the look of things on the outside, and thankfully the power button is not overly bright. Speaking of buttons, the menu buttons are awesome! Move your finger up from the power button and it detects this by lighting up the menu access button. Just tap the outside of the case and up pops the menu along with the other buttons. Menu is very quick, intuitive, and the buttons all respond very well. I am impressed!

I seem to be blessed and this is my second panel from Dell that appears to have come without any pixel flaws! Was quite nice to see the factor color calibration test done, although I don't know how to read it. And it's very bright! I'm not sure if I had my 2001 turned down(probably did) or if this is just so much brighter. It's lighting up my keyboard and reflecting the keys back at me. I suspect it will take time for me to adjust and get this thing right. As for image quality...amazing! Whites are just incredible! It was one of the first things I noticed when I turned it on. Everything else just looks 'right' as well. I'm not sure which color profile I should use, and am on standard for now.

My only gripe is with the stands rotator part. First of all it's a real pain to get this thing to go down, and then it just lets go suddenly. Too easy to lift as well, so you have to be careful when adjusting. Rotating is about right, a touch stiff but ok. The problem being there is some slack there so if you touch the monitor it shakes for a bit. Also bad if you have a shakey desk.

Apart from that though this is an incredible monitor!

Ha, I just received mine as well. (FedEx). Perfect condition.

What DEMO24 said.... I will very soon have to turn down the brightness...installed fine/grabbed the monitor file off the cd.

Only weird thing so far... . later today, I had to re-boot the comp for something else, and at start-up screen, it hung up, with message:
"auto-detecting USB mass storage devices- device # 01"... took about 2 minutes, then continued thru start-up....What's up w/ that?

EDIT... just played COD-WaW for 10 minutes...WOW... I have to reduce brightness and increase contrast. ...anyone seen posts yet on 'ideal' settings for that?

I turned the gamma down in windows and that seemed to help a touch. Almost seemed washed out from the factory. I still haven't decided which color mode I should use, still on standard for now. It's interesting that 'gaming' mode really increases the brightness, but it takes a few seconds for it to do so. I tried switching between gaming mode and a few others to see if there was any noticeable difference, and I don't believe so. Although gaming did seem to look the best. Either way BF2 looked awesome on it!

I've heard that it's a newer revision of the same panel. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. Hopefully it fixes a few of the complaints from the HP... pink and green tinting, I believe.

I've also heard about a newer revision but i can say that: nope pink and green tinting still exists on some panel (so on mine too)

The 'graininess' was also a little bit confusing for my eyes. I think i could arrange with it, but i cannot understand people who even cannot see or even recognize the 'graininess'.
Maybe some panels are a bit more 'grainy' than others (spread for standard factory panels)...

So i send my u2410 back yesterday in order to get my money back, because i don't want to get a refurbished one in exchange. So maybe i order another one in some days an hope it will be better that time (thanx to right of withdrawal in germany )

I received mine yesterday. It has zero dead pixel. Like others have said, it is super bright. But it is gorgeous. It comes with a print out of the factory calibration result. But I can't make sense of it.

Now I have a different problem. I have a dual monitor setup. The color temp on my old Dell 2001FP is warmer than the factory calibrated U2410. I tried to change the 2001FP to match the U2410, but have been unsuccessful. There is no simple color temp adjustment on the 2001FP. Any suggestion?

Tried putting your u2410 on 'warm' mode?

Also, one thing to note that others might not have hit on. Gaming mode ups the brightness level significantly. I seriously doubt anyone could see the difference in lag, but the increased brightness is very noticeable. Takes a few seconds before it reach's it's output level.

do you guys leave your monitor in standby, with the yellow light slowly flashing, or just switch it off completely?

thanks

I always leave my LCD monitors in standby. According to the U2410 manual, both standyby and off (plugged in) consume less than 1W. Typical power usage is 75W and max to 132W (max brightness, with soundbar and USB both in use).

Are there any coupons available for this LCD now? I really need to match it up with the 24" inch Dell I purchased a few years back.

I, too, am keeping tabs on this monitor. I currently own a 2005FPW, purchased (gasp!) 4 years ago and it is time for an upgrade. Between this, the LP2475w, and NEC's new 23" IPS, this is my favorite....but the price is not the best, atm. Best to wait for stackable coupons from Dell. @Linux, you just missed a deal that would have made this $479. However, like the 2005FPW 4 years ago, I imagine there will be way better deals as it gets closer to the holidays...purely speculation, tho, on my part.

Can anyone please elaborate or show a screen of what this "graininess" is all about? On another forum, someone suggested they're as grainy as the first-gen IPS models, like the 2005FPW, but on my own I see no grain to speak of. I read one user review that said it was so bad and distracting that he returned it ASAP. Ouch.

Alright, someone snuck a TN into my u2410 because it looks terrible compared to my 2007WFP next door. Vertical viewing angle's horrible and there's a red tint to txt when looked through my glasses. Also, the blacks are somehow worse on this thing than my old S-IPS. The menu system on the right side's a joke and registers 1 out of ever 4 presses and the different "presets" look ridiculous. Game turns everything red and anything other than SRGB or adobe destroy colors. There seems to be no way to adjust gaming mode either.

Don't think anyone's mentioned this here: the Brits at TFT Central have published perhaps the first formal review of the Dell U2410.

The most surprising thing I took away from their review: despite having a newer, arguably superior version of the same LG.Display H-IPS panel, the Dell U2410 does not improve on the HP LP2475w in all respects, viz:

- despite the vaunted factory calibration, Dell U2410 deltaE was worse than the LP2475w 'out of the box'
- inferior blacks and contrast to the LP2475w and the (PVA) Dell 2408WFP
- owing to above specs, U2410 not as ideal for video / movie watching
- '12-bit LUT didn't make too much difference'

However, like all other observers, TFT Central found the Dell's sRGB mode 'actually works pretty well', especially compared to the LP2475w's, which 'seemingly did nothing to actually reduce the colour space'.

The only thing that worries me about the Dell U2410 is the sRGB dithering issue in dark areas; otherwise its superior sRGB mode clearly renders it preferable to the LP2475w for most punters.

Ouch I would have been hoping for better performance that that. The most disappointing was the black level. When I was looking for a monitor I wanted something that could be used for mixed media, namely photoshop and blu-ray. So black level and contrast was important. Calibrated my monitor sits at 1000:1 with a black level of approx .19. Granted that is a weakness of IPS.

At least the price is right given the performance.

You can register for deal alerts at TechBargains

There is a 10% off coupon for Dell Small Business that you can apply to this monitor through October 28. Combined with the current $50 off, that results in a net price of $494 (plus tax).
