UltraSharp 2710W has me wondering . . . Could it be e-IPS? There are new 23" e-IPS panels just going into production, and I have herd some "rumblings" about a 27/28" e-IPS panel at some point.

As currently the UltraSharp 2408WFP and UltraSharp 2709W pretty much "clones" except in size, but with the UltraSharp 2410W versus the UltraSharp 2710W they would not be.

It is getting real interesting.

It seems doubtful Dell will offer LED-backlighting in a forthcoming 24-inch IPS display, especially if they want to maintain a competitive price vis-a-vis the HP LP2475w and perhaps the LG W2420P. That said, LED backlighting might be one way for Dell to justify charging a premium for the UltraSharp 2410 and differentiate it from other 24-inch displays in their line (thus avoiding a repeat of the 2209WA market segment error). But how much could they charge? How much are you lads willing to pay? I don't know if I'd pay $600 for a Dell.

I am just wondering if Dell is now getting better "deals" on the new e-IPS panels from LG than the S-PVA from Samsung, so I do not think it will have LED-backlighting, have a posted price of something ridiculous like $ 699.99 that it is really never sold at that price when one counts in the frequent and many discounts, coupons and the like. The UltraSharp 2410W will probable just be a "replacement" for the UltraSharp 2409WFP, with a slightly higher actual average selling price initially to allow for "price erosion", and to eliminate stocks of the UltraSharp 2409WFP. Then right after the 2009 holiday period, the UltraSharp 2410W average selling price will "slip" to where the UltraSharp 2409WFP is today, or lower.

Besides the 2209WA's IPS panel resolution, there is LG 22" e-IPS 1920 x 1200 (as used with the LG W2220P), and also 1920x1080 resolution panels either available or "in the works", so the "rumored" refresh of the 2209WA with the 2210WA could use one of these panels, and add HDMI connectivity.

LG also has a 23" e-IPS 16:9 1920x1080 just starting production, Dell could make use of that also.

It is the "hint" about the UltraSharp 2710W that Dell's Chris M. dropped last week, that seems very interesting.

This is great news, I've been waiting for such a long time for a good 24" monitor, and decided to wait after the LP2475w was released. Here's to hoping that Dell releases a great monitor!

I assume that this monitor will be wide gamut as well since it's the same panel? That kinda sucks for web design, but I believe I can make do...

I'm still waiting for my 120Hz 24" e-IPS. I'm not sure about the lifespan and color spectrum of LED backlighting.

I really hope it is LED backlit. I would be throwing money at Dell the day after launch....

agreed. i got totally spoiled by my macbook pros LED backlit screen

i will instantly buy the 2410 if it has LED backlighting, all the ports, and a matte display.

Weird thing is I was on livechat with a Dell rep last week as I wanted something ips and they said since they just discontinued the S2209wa that there were no ips panels at all. Didn't leak any info about an upcoming 24" ips monitor either, although the guy seemed clueless.

2209wa is great imho. honestly, I feel like the screen is huge still after using it for 5 months.

Has there been any mention of a forthcoming 24-inch Dell IPS display beyond some service rep 'leaks' (we all know how clueless these employees generally are) and that German TUV site's certification listing? By now, we should have seen some mention on the various display blogs. Monitors which we are still awaiting (eg the LG W2420P and the demo'd 23-inch LG e-IPS panel) were announced on display-oriented blogs months ago.

I'd love to see further competition in the 22 to 24-inch IPS market: currently in the States there's one affordable 22-inch (Dell 2209WA) and one affordable 24-inch (HP LP2475w). It would be brilliant if both LG and Dell would enter the 24-inch IPS market, but LG hasn't got a history of importing IPS displays to North America, and the Dell UltraSharp 2410 seems rather vapourware-ish at present.

Do the specs suggest it may be using the same LG.Philips H-IPS panel as the HP LP2475w? Dynamic contrast stats are generally useless; LP2475w is listed with 1000:1 static contrast, I think?

I've read contrasting stats for the HP LP2475w colour gamut: 92 per cent NTSC, 102 pc? Don't think I've ever seen 110?

In any case, though this isn't surprising, it would have been nice if the UltraSharp 2410 had been an sRGB display. Correcting for the wide gamut on most modern monitors (eg the 2408WFP and LP2475w) can be a little painful, and not all applications are colour-managed.

Depends which gamut they are comparing it to. It is 110% of sRGB but may only be 92% of NTSC.

Time to wake up this thread in earnest: Dell UltraSharp U2410 is now available for purchase in the UK and China. The reported prices suggest we could see an initial price under $600 in the States. And who knows what Dell coupons will eventually obtain.

12-bit 1920x1200 H-IPS at about $500 would be well nigh irresistible and provide a sorely needed 24-inch IPS entry at a more affordable price than the NEC.

I've heard this wouldn't be available in the US until the end of the month :-( Which is funny since Dell is a US company they always tend to release new stuff to the US last :-( From what I have read it looks like the price will be somewhere around $550-600

Makes sense, inventory of 2408's are still high in NA, and the U2710 will be even later but in time for the holiday rush (crush).

From the following Dell Hong Kong URL:

http://www1.ap.dell.com/hk/en/...30_lcd&s=bsd&cs=hkbsd1

And note:

Dell U2410 UltraSharp U2410 24-inch Widescreen Monitor
Price from HK$6,848
Instant Savings HK$3,479
Online discounted price HK$3,369
Incl. delivery

Dell UltraSharp? 2408WFP 24" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Price from HK$6,848
Instant Savings HK$2,048
Online discounted price HK$4,800
Incl. delivery

Noting the above promotional discounted pricing for Hong Kong over the last weekend past, one quickly notices that the Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch widescreen monitor HAS THE SAME BASE PRICE as the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP 24-inch widescreen monitor, that is HK$6,848!!!

Further, NOTICE THE PROMOTIONAL DISCOUNT, HK$3,479 for the Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch widescreen monitor versus HK$2,048 for the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP 24-inch widescreen monitor; the Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch widescreen monitor HAS THE GREATER DISCOUNT!!!

BY AT TOTAL of HK$1,431, THE Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch widescreen monitor IS SELLING FOR LESS!!!

So will this sort of pricing occur in the US? And why do we had to be the ?last? marketing region to order/price the Dell UltraSharp U2410 24-inch widescreen monitor, that now seems to be set for September 7th, 2009?

Maybe we all could communicate to Dell?s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Erin Nelson (Erin_Nelson@dell.com) and/or Dell?s President, Small and Medium Business, Stephen Felice (Stephen_Felice@dell.com) and ask these important questions.

I just received one of these monitors today and I really like it.

I dont really know much about LCD's but it looks funky with loads of connection types

Down with my old trinitron monitor - Neel has joined the 21st century

Out of curiosity, what's the lifespan of a LCD monitor? - can I just leave it on all day?
