Out of curiosity, what's the lifespan of a LCD monitor? - can I just leave it on all day?

LCD monitors can and probably will last you at least a decade if not two if used normally. I haven't read any tests of leaving an LCD on for 24/7 for long periods of times, but unlike CRTs or plasmas they don't suffer from burn-in images. However it's possible for them to acquire stuck or dead pixels. Again I have no idea if prolonged use is the cause of this. Most of the time dead/stuck pixels are defects in the manufacturing process.

It's also hard to gauge if LCD's fade or lose color quality over time, because any monitor old enough for us to test the effects of age on the order of ten years or more were based on older technologies and had worse color reproduction to begin with. I have a 15" Compaq monitor from the old Athlong Tbird era (circa 8~ years ago) and it still works just fine, although the colors are noticeably worse than my Samsung 2493HM and my older Viewsonic 19" (2005ish). The Viewsonic meanwhile looks almost as good as Samsung although it does trade color accuracy for a 2ms response time right out of the box.

Full screen solid colour in each of: red, green, blue, white & black is probably easiest. Then just look carefully!

I managed to get linked to it on their website yesterday. It was priced at $600, although I don't know if there is a waiting list. I'm wondering if it's worth buying at that price over some others in this segment?

There's a coupon that brings this monitor down to ~$480 before taxes and fees (especially if you're buying in CA, since we have the monitor recycling fee =( ). Seems like a very good price for this monitor if the specs as people say are correct.

I just picked up an 2408 about 3 months ago while Dell was clearing them out, but I am still tempted to get a 2410 to replace the Soyo Topax 24" that I still use.

I'm heavily considering this with the coupon. I've been looking to buy a 24" ips and 480 is a pretty damn good price. The only problem is that I don't even have a working desktop at the moment. LOL.

The coupon expires by midnight on Sunday (sept 13) I believe.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger...

How on earth did you get linked to it? On the US site?

I heard a rumor earlier this year that dell was coming out with a 23" or 24" e-ips like the 2209wa. Has anybody heard confirmation of this?

I found it on a forum

http://configure.us.dell.com/d...=en&s=bsd&kc=&oc=u2410

And yes it works, I guess they don't have a big stock so they haven't put it on their main page yet. Also there's a thread in hot deals telling you how to bring that down to 480. Only lasts until Sun. though. I'm going to do it sometime today.

Has there yet been any direct image quality comparisons to the 2408WFP? Is their a chance the U2410 could be a worse monitor?

It'll pricey, but I guess it has more features than some of the more base 24in displays. I've been looking at getting 2 Acer H243Hbmids or two Asus VW246Hs. Both are around 215 dollars at Newegg right now. I'll probably miss the card readers on the side of my current U2407, but I can easily get a USB device for those.

Wouldn't exactly dump the 2407 either, it'd be demoted to my test bed machines. Let their IGPs choke on 1920x1200.

Yeah, there's a big thread about it on HardForums. It seems good, just want to see more real-world input latency testing. If it does well with that, it's a winner.

If I had known that the coupon was going to expire so soon, I would have ordered one yesterday I bought a 2408WFP three weeks ago for $395. It was a good deal but I think I'll be returning it and wait for another promotion on the 2410WFP.

Are there many user reviews?

maybe this one:

http://www.jayceooi.com/2009/0...trasharp-u2410-review/

I bought this monitor the other day and its pretty cool. Adobe RGB mode does nothing for me, so I just leave it on multimedia

I've hooked my PC up to my Pioneer KRP 600A and was playing World in Conflict and didn't notice any lag

The menu on the left is nice

I dont know anything about LCD monitors but it looks nice and I can view it from any angle too

What was wrong with the original Dell U2410 thread? Granted, it did lack the 'OFFICIAL' imprimatur, heh...

Mmm, Jayce's review wasn't terribly informative, though I found the viewing angles a little disappointing (though the effects may be exaggerated in his photos).

If it doesn't have a polarizer then you're going to see some shift off axis.

I've heard that it's a newer revision of the same panel. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. Hopefully it fixes a few of the complaints from the HP... pink and green tinting, I believe.

Hopefully the firmware is good. Usually it takes Dell monitors several versions of firmware to fix scaling, input, or some other problems.
