Dell U2415 - Brightness fades in and out. Power saving?

I just got 2 U2415 Dell monitors which overall I like BUT while trying to watch a movie I noticed the brightness of the monitor fading in and out. It appears to be some sort of power saving feature.

You can see a power saving meter when you go in the monitor's options and watch it go up and down which makes the brightness go up and down. But I dont see anything to turn off power saving.

Does anyone know how to turn this off?

This appears to be some sort of "Content Adaptive" feature.

If your screen is displaying things that are mostly dark it lowers the brightness which in turn lowers power consumption.

I found there is a Windows settings for this called "adaptive brightness" but its already set to off.

So Im thinking its something built into the monitors. I have not found a way to turn it off. Its really annoying. Like I would return the monitors if it wasnt a huge pain in the ass to do so since I got them through Newegg.

Look into the Display Settings of your monitor if the Dynamic Contrast setting is turned off. That was the culprit in my case.

I've already been through the OSD pretty thoroughly. I've even talked to Dell tech support over the phone.

The tech said on the monitor he was using there is an option to turn it off but where that setting should be on my monitor its not there.

This really seems like a design flaw.

I think it slipped by maybe because most people have a bright desktop background which would keep the monitor lit up.

I keep my desktop background solid black which makes the monitor dim. Its dynamic, if you have mostly dark content on screen it dims. If I bring up a blank white page or doc the brightness goes up to normal levels.

This is my theory anyway.

But ya, Id say a horrible design flaw.

You might have one more option, Dynamic Contrast is disabled in my Dell U2713HM if I use the Display Port input.

Hmm, ok.

My graphics card is old. It doesnt have display port.

I would have to use a dvi-to-displayport adapter, which I dont know if those exist. I know there is displayport-to-dvi but I dont know if those are bi-directional.

I never touched the brightness and contrast settings. When you adjust them it warns you "Changing the contrast will disable Dynamic Contrast".

What a mess.
