Dell U2711 won't enter powersave mode

Hi guys,

Recently I started having issues with my monitor, a Dell U2711, not entering powersave mode when I either shut down or sleep my computer.

Sometimes I will work just fine, but other times it will stay on and display a static picture:

It seems to be about 50/50 to whether it can properly enter powersave or not, and I can't seem to find any causes for it.

If i get the static picture, pulling the cable (displayport) doesn't do anything. Nor can i bring up the OSD when it happens. Power cycling the monitor will cause it to properly enter powersave when it turns on again.

Video card is an AMD 7950 on cat 13.12, but since pulling the cable doesn't fix the issue, I don't think its a problem on the video card side.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

PS: After trying the above---the other interfaces, if you have another computer, try hooking the screen up to one of them.

Hmm,

I'll try it out on DVI, but since it doesn't happen every time, it'll probably take me a few days to figure out if it actually worked. will report back.

Excellent. Obvious troubleshooting steps. Always good to have spare cables....of every kind known to humanity.

Spare everything.

Well 4 days and no problems yet, starting to look like it was a display port issue. Unfortunately I don't have another computer with display port that I can test...

K......this means you hooked it up via DVI and for 4 days, things are normal?

I'm on the latest WHQL drivers (cat 13.12). There's a newer beta driver out (cat 14.1), but i generally avoid those.

I have the exact same issue with that driver on the exact same monitor. If you back rev it will fix it. It is a driver defect. Only affects display port I believe. Or at least all the DVI monitors I have attached don't have that issue.

Brilliant! I sensed driver issue, asked, but did not follow up and delve. Thanks you you for this!

Thanks for the info.

I can't seem to find anything documenting this issue on AMD's end. Do you know if the 14.1/14.2 betas have resolved the issue?

If so, I'll give the betas a try, if not, I guess I will go back to 13.9

I updated to the beta 2 days ago and now I seem to get a black screen but on 20% of the time. I have not seeing the multicolored garbage screen yet. That isn't saying much though.

Not saying much.....for sure.

But it does appear a drivers issue.

AMD must have a blog site, no? Cept I just looked fast and see no normal community with members posting questions and getting responses.

Micro Devices....not so ADVANCED in some ways, it seems.
