Been great for me, I've played Unreal II & Tournament, C&C generals, Quake III, Nascar Racing, etc. No problems, no ghosting. I use the DVI interface on a TI 4200.

I just got mine yesterday. I think it's fantastic for gaming, or anything else for that matter!

Its a sweet monitor, got one here at work. I would've gotten one for home usage, but 1600x1200 native is a bit taxing on the video card. 9700pro or 800x600 in FPS. Ended up getting a 1900FP for home use, as its bezel is smaller profile and its native is perfect for me at 1280x1024 and 19'' VIS.

I'm also considering getting either the 1900FP or 2000FP. I have a 2.53 P4 and 9700 pro. I'm not sure which monitor would be the better choice for gaming though. The price is tempting on the 1900FP.. $640+tax today in Dell small business.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the extra size and resolution of the 2000FP improves your gaming experience? Thanks.

Dave, you might should consider the Dell 1800FP. Usually every now and then there are deals on it for I think 385 shipped. It is just as good for gaming as the 2000 and 1900, if not better (probably the same) but most who get it love it.

The deal is dead, but here is an example, the deal.

I had one of these and I stupidly let my wife talk me into sending it back to Dell. She hated the massive external apperance of the 2000fp. I got a Planar 191m as a replacement. The Planar is somewhat brighter and the colors are a little more intense, but I wish I had not made the trade. I miss the HUGE screen with 1600x1200 resolution, plus the Planar has two defects in the screen. Moral to this story-don't listen to your wife about computer stuff.

Ha! Thanks for the advice. My girlfriend already thinks I'm crazy for spending this much on a monitor. But to me, it's worth it. I'll be replacing a 21" CRT, so the size of the 2000FP will probably seem small in comparison.

This screen is awesome. I got it a while back for 700 something and I am glad I did. I play games on it all the time and they look GREAT! I have it hooked up to my 9700 PRO via DVI. I also have my old 19" monitor on the VGA hook up for when I actually do work on my computer. I could not be happier. I know it is a lot of money but well worth it. I just didn't say anything to my girlfriend until it arrived. It is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. he he

Really my only worry with the 2000FP is that at 1600x1200, the dot pitch will be fairly small (.255mm). And I've heard that these LCD monitors don't look as good when not running in native resolution. The 1900FP, however, when run at 1280x1024 resolution would have a dot pitch of .300mm. For games with no text, this isnt an issue. But I'm worried that the text on internet / email / applications might be a little too small for my taste.

I realize that many applications allow you to scale the text size up. But in my experience this never works 100%. There is always some text that shows up at the smaller size.

Rocktavio, is this the reason you go back to your 19" CRT for normal work?

I run my LCD at 1280x1024 for Windows and any game that can handle it at 1600x1200. Both resolutions look great. 1024x768 looks pretty bad. You are right about some of them not being so nice...when it scales the fonts. I use the 19" CRT in conjunction with my LCD so I have more desktop space while working. I do a lot of editing and translation work so it is nice to have the work on one side and my dictionaries, reference, et cetera on another screen. Dual screen is great for work!

I had a 2000FP for about a week. 2D (via DVI) is stellar, of course, but I couldn't stand gaming on it. As little as I play games, it was EXTREMELY annoying.

Don't get me wrong, it's a SWEET monitor. Absolutely beautiful. But UT2K3 sucked ass on it.

I ended up selling it for what I paid for it (same $76x deal as mentioned previously).

I'm curious to try one of the newer 16 ms panels, but I'll wait until they have a 20"+ version available.

well lets bottom line this conversation - does the native resolution of the 2000FP cause any, or many problems for you owners? I am all hot to get one, but I had not run across this specification yet, and now Im worried a little. I don't have any monitors that can push the resolution up that high, so I've never played any games at that level. If having to run games at that resolution is going to tax my display adapters, maybe I should look at some other options. I'm running ATI 8500's, and TI4600, and FX5200, and they should handle that well enough, but on an LCD??? Somebody say something please - thx, biosylum

I would imagine that for gaming, the native resolution would require that you have a HOG of a computer to run the latest games at 1600X1200.

I wish they'd make a 20 inch LCD with 1280X960 as the resolution.

I bought the ATI 8500dv early last year and got the Dell 2000fp late last year. Everything works looks great in DVI to me.

On an lcd monitor, games can look good when running at non-native resolution. If you want a 2000fp for gaming, I would not let the 1600x1200 resolution scare you off. In text and web surfing you can set font sizes and other settings to make them bigger if you wish. As I said in a previous post, I wish I had not sent back my 2000fp.

I agree, UT2003 sucks big time on the 2000FP. I saw one of these at a mall kiosk and was very disappointed with the results. The monitor itself rocks for general use and it looks like a king, but my understanding is there's two important factors when choosing a LCD. The contrast ratio: 500:1 or better and <20ms response time. The 2000fp is only 350:1 and I can't find the response time.

One question I haven't seen in any discussion. What's the difference in ghosting & brightness taking the same LCD connected one way analog compaired to DVI? Not having experienced the LCD world myself I'm interested. When I was checking out the 2000FP at the kiosk, maybe it wasn't connected via DVI. Would that make a huge difference in response times?

yes, there will most likely be more delay when using analog because a/d conversions need to take place.

there are also bandwidth issues and interference when running at a high refresh rate/resolution/colordepth. definitely use dvi on this monitor.

i highly recommend it however

and whoever said that 1024x768 looks bad is too picky, i play games fine at that resolution and i don't find anything particularly wrong with it. i upgraded to this monitor from a nec 1500m, which had a native resolution of 1024x768, and while its not as sharp at 1024x768, i think it still looks great

maybe when i get a 9800pro or something, i can run counter-strike at 1600x1200.
