Just got mine this afternoon and so far I'm very pleased. It scales to 1280x1024 great and is easier on the eyes than my CRT. Gaming is decent, not as good as my CRT but close. I'll probably use it for singleplayer games because I love the definition and when playing "competitively" online I'll use the CRT. I like the adjustability of the display stand, plethora of connections, and the price was certainly right!
I was a little worried after seeing the complaints about the screen door effect, dead pixels, and backlighting problems but I have none of these issues. If I put my face 2 inches from the monitor I can notice a slight screen door effect, but when seated at a normal distance it's not visible at all. I haven't had a chance to look at the Samsung 213T in real life so I can't compare it to it's nearest competitor, but I will say at almost half the price of the samsung it's a damn good deal.

If you look at a totally black picture, the upper right doesnt seem overly bright? Try watching a widescreen movie and let me know if you see a grey spot in the upper right.

Massaging the pixel? Is that supposed to help get rid of stuck pixels? I thought the way to get rid of them was to run a screensaver or other program that was very colorful to try to get the pixel to fix itself?

On a totally black screen with the brightness cranked all the way up I can only notice a very small difference in backlighting and it's not in the top right, it's in the top middle. It's nothing I'll worry about

Got my 2001FP this evening. My god, I love this monitor. No stuck pixels, no weird tilting, no screendoor effect, and the white corner is extremely faint and only shows on a completely black screen. I've played some FPSes, watched some DVDs, and did some coding. It's just incredible. The only problem with it is I can now see artifacts in some of the TV shows I've recorded and compressed!

Finally got mine at 7:30pm...and I LOVE it! No bad pixels/tilting/screendoor effect. Tried movies (great color!) & games, dual display mode, etc. My only complaint is that in Far Cry quick movements didn't look that great, but that might have been because I was using a Geforce 5900 with most of the visual effects cranked up at 1600x1200...when I get my 6800 I'll try it again.

I had no idea I'd be able to put the dual screens at different resolutions...it's great! Rotating the screen 90 degrees is a trip too, heh. The color is so nice and vibrant it made me realize how bad my CRT settings were.

Question for anyone using dual displays: When I played a movie (PowerDVD & WMP) from either screen (full-screen or not), it makes the other one also play the movie in full-screen mode. Anyone know how I can just play the movie in one screen only? I tried moving my mouse over to the 'other' screen to try to close it and can't get a mouse pointer when the movie's playing. Not critical, but just thinking I might want to have e-mail open or something on the other screen. Guess I can play on one, then minimize it while it still plays maximized on the second screen...

Haven't tried the s-video or composite inputs yet. Plugging in a mouse to the USB port doesn't seem to effect my CPU usage.

ss284 - I noticed no grey spot in my upper corner while playing a movie.

tstrike - I'm using DualView mode. In case I wasn't clear, I get 2 viewings of the movie, one on each screen. It's not spanning across them together.

it's mirroring each other then? did you enable "extend ny Windows desktop onto this monitor" option in the dispaly properties?

Yes and no. Everything's 'normal' until I play a movie. By normal, I mean I can have e-mail open on screen 1, then surf on the other, etc. When I start a movie on screen 1, it also starts showing the movie on screen 2, full-screen only. I can do everything normally on screen 1, but on screen 2 it only shows the movie, no mouse when I move the cursor over. However, if I grab the movie window from screen 1 and move it into screen 2, all of a sudden screen 2 displays 'normally;' It stops being fullscreen, shows the explorer window I have open, with my cursor and the movie window, but on screen one it immediately goes to the full-screen mode...

I've got to go to sleep, so no big deal. Like I said, if I play from one then minimize it, I can watch it on the other...just kind of weird when I'm not sure why it's doing that. There are a ton of new options in the nView Desktop Manager I've never played with, so maybe I'll come across it. Thanks for the assistance though.

Well it seems like the backlighting issue isnt on all the panels. However, I highly doubt that the screen door effect isnt present on all the screens. I'm guessing its a bit more dependant on the user's perception of screen, some people see it, some people dont, just like how some people cant stand a 60 HZ refresh and others dont even notice it.

For those people who recieved what they consider a monitor without the grey spot/screen door effect, when was your panel manufactured?

Thanks to all that reply

My panel has June 2004 manufacture date and I dont see this screen door effect... I think what people mean and its barely perceptible. No dead pixels that I could find.... andthe backlighting issue is also very minor just on the top right corner.. and only if I turn the brightness all the way up

can anyone suggest a cleaner for the screen. Is Windex ok on it? I used that for my CRT monitor.

hope all of you can have Dell fix the issues for you ... enjoy the monitor.

I am loving mine.

Screendoor effect comes into focus for me every now and then. I don't see it all the time, neither am I trying to see it but it pops up sometimes. In fact, I can see it at a distance (image/text becomes grainy at a certain angle, or something), rather than up and close to the screen. Oh, there is backlight bleeding alright, just not very pronounced. I think it's in panel design, and nothing u can do about it.

Should never really make use of a chemical cleaner (Windex, etc) on an LCD. Doing so can unfortunately dissolve some of the various layers of coating used over the display itself. Water only and a lint free/non-abrasive cloth is best.

For stubborn spots (fingerprints, smudges, etc), a very mild non-ammonia and non-alcohol based cleaner may be used sparringly. Always remember, however, to spray the cloth rather than spraying the display itself.

A bunch of you are talking about stuck pixels and the screen door effect, how do I know if I have either? I've been using my monitor for a couple of days now and it seems to look just fine (I dont even see fading in the corners)...am I lucky or not looking hard enough? (the USB ports works perfectly, too...better than my other USB hub actually )

Dead pixel checker:

As for the screen door effect, it depends on your personal subjective perception, but try looking at a picture with a gradient of a greyish color. I found looking at some high res shots of grey colored cars to work pretty well. Compare this experience with looking at a normal monitor. As for the backlighting, watch a widescreen movie and check the black for uneveness.

Cannot recall off-hand where it was I originally found this, but will make the dead pixel detector application have used for years available for download here.

Has a present color scheme (Red, Green, Blue, Black), and also allows a single custom color of the user's choosing.

My monitor looks great except the ghosting is terrible No dead pixels but a lot of ghosting

I will have to try it over DVI later to see if it gets better.
