I got my $687 refurbed 2001FB Friday after ordering it last Sunday. I used the Nokia Monitor Test to check it out. My video connection is analog (built-in nVidia GeoForce4 MX420) limited to 1280 x 1024.

No light bleeding issues that I could detect. My room wasn't pitch black, but I had brightness set at 100% and the room much darker than usual.

No variation of brightness, focus or color across the screen. Every pixel seems the same as every other one.

Dead pixels? No, but I found one green sub-pixel that was stuck on. It's not noticeable under non-testing conditions.

I found the Auto Adjust feature of the OSD's Image Settings (or hit the + button next to the LCD's power button without going into OSD) very helpful in fixing a scaling issue.

"Screen door effect?" Maybe slightly more than my Samsung 191T, but it's a tough call. I don't notice it unless I'm looking hard for it.

Bottom line: a great monitor for a very good price. Refurb wasn't a problem. However, LCD prices continue to decline and the awesome Samsung 213T beckons (currently $900 on eBay). Maybe I can get one for $600 around Christmas time...?

Damn it...three dead pixels. Considering that I am no expert, is this acceptable? Just a little annoying to drop $700 on something and it not be perfect.

Hey guys... help me out here...

I have had this monitor for about 3 weeks now and I havent had any major problems... No dead pixels!

I have a FX 5600 video card by Albatron which I'm using the DVI output...

I notice that on 1280 x 960 (my preferred setting) I can only get 60 mHz refresh rate with DVI...
However with analog, I cant get 72 mHz...

In fact with DVI, i can't get higher than 60 mHz refresh rate on any resolution setting...

The DVI is actually worse for ghosting than the analog mode (I think its because of the low refresh rate)...

Are my refresh rates on DVI being limited by my video card or the monitor? Im thinking about going back to the analog settings (which kind of sucks... I could have save 350$ by getting an analog only monitor at 19".) Thanks for any advice.

Refresh rates are fairly inconsequential in regards to LCD technology. Anything at or over 60 Hz (not mHz) will prove sufficient. A more notable specification would be the pixel response time, which on the 2001FP is quoted at 16ms - which is quite excellent for an LCD.

Should be noted however that running any LCD at less than its native resolution (in the 2001FP's case, 1600x1200) will degrade performance, especially in the way of clarity. In comparison to other LCDs, the 2001FP does scale down to other resoltuons well, but will never offer quite the same experience (in regards to performance or visual aesthetics) at less than native resolution - the distinguishable difference between the scaled down and the native is often a matter of user taste and preference in many cases (although personally, it always seems apparent to me).

Anyone know when this is going on sale again or if its still available if you order over the phone? Kicking myself that I missed this deal , and they have no interest til aug. 2005 so I hope I can order before the end of august to get that deal as well.

-EDIT-
I called Dell yesterday(8/1) and the sales rep talked to his supervisor and they honored the coupons for the monitor. Suppose to be here on wed. according to the shipping estimate on dell's website. I cant wait!

Just got mine yesterday, using analog input at 1600 x 1200.

- No dead pixels(!)
- Backlight problem apparent at top left hand corner when screen is totally black (about a 3-4 inch radius area appears slightly brighter than the rest of the screen), otherwise not noticeable.
- Played a bit of quake 3 and noticed some blurring, but NO trailing in the game or in a seperate monitor test. Performance is not ideal, but game is still totally playable. This blurring should improve when using DVI if i understand correctly. Thoughts, anyone?
- Screendoor effect not noticeable on varying gradients of black and gray in tests and on images/web. This issue is only noticeable when squinting eyes and looking at screen from 2"-3" away.

Overall I'm happy with it, but the backlight issue concerns me only for 2-3 years down the road as the monitor ages, I'm wondering if any time/age induced degradation of the LCD will cause this problem to become more and more noticeable. If it will stay the same, this monitor is a keeper, if it will gradually get worse, I'll have to seriously consider exchanging.

After a day of owning a 2001FP I would definitely recommend it to anyone in search of a general purpose LCD monitor.

Just got mine like 1 hour ago, I ordered it sunday got it today. Apparently they have a distro center in orlando and Im in tampa so I got overnight delivery for free. Also

ATTENTION:
The 2001FP is now $899 call and get your price difference if you ordered with the coupons like I did! I called today before my monitor got here and the guy gave me the difference! Now the monitor is below $700 with tax. This is awesome!

Edit:
On another note I've tested out the monitor, just doing the dead pixel test and backlight/screen door issue. No dead pixels and I havent seen anything I didnt like so far. Better test for me is when I get it hooked up at home and test it out in gaming. I cant wait! BTW Im also using the analog for right now and I will be until I order a new video card with DVI so I dont expect anything too grand at the moment.

On the phone now, I'm getting problems but I asked for the supervisor, hopefully (s)he will be able to adjust it without having me return it and then buy a new one. No tax for me so I hope it will be a full 100 rebate (or close to it since 25% of 900 isnt quite 25% of 1000...)

Love you guys

But coupons cant be applied anymore. Are you saying he refunded you 100 dollars in addition to the original 709 price?

Correct, he gave me the price difference. And technically I never used a coupon since the supervisor on sunday just had the sales rep do a price adjustment for me down to $749. I dont know if this will effect people who did the coupon or not. All I know is he gave me the credit back on my DPA without any hassle.

So you just called up and asked for the difference? They totally ignored the fact that you used a coupon to drop the price below what it is currenty? If so, I have to give this a shot.

Yep I just called and said I bought it on sunday and it was 999 and I used a 25% coupon and I would just like the difference since now its $899.

EDIT:
Like I thought when I called, its worth a shot even if I didnt get it.

This is simply amazing! I'm definitely going to call, but please tell me which department you spoke with. My experience with Dell customer service and support has been HORRIBLE. Once I've explained my situation to them they pass me off to another person and I get thrown in the proverbial endless transfer loop. Please provide # with extension if you have it. Thanks!

Seems like they've upped it back to $999, must have got a lot of calls about it? Typical dell though they drop the price and people are like oh crap o_o and they put it back up.

Well I tried:

{Steven Sun 12:14:37 PM} I saw the price of the 2001fp drop to 899.99
{Renee 12:15:24 PM} Your monitor is costing $719.5
{Steven Sun 12:16:21 PM} from 999.99
{Renee 12:16:28 PM} Steven there is not updated of the price drop, it shows the cost of the item is $899.00
{Renee 12:16:38 PM} You got the order at $719.25 {Renee 12:17:35 PM} Steven the cost of the monitor is $899.00, there is no information showing that it is costing $999.99
{Renee 12:17:42 PM} There will not be any refund processed
{Renee 12:17:44 PM} Is there anything else I can assist you with?

Damnit. I still need to exchange the thing because of the terrible backlight and an uneven pivot.

What should I look for exactly with the backlight issue? I hooked my monitor up for a few minutes here at work to make sure everything was working but as far as the backlight issue I didnt see anything wrong.

You sure about that?

2001FP on Dell Home

It's currently showing me $899.

If anyone was successful getting a pricematch, have any pointers? Dealing with Dell when I ordered this monitor was a nightmare and a half.

Try adding that $899 to your cart..!!!........ It WILL be $999
So there is an error with the site or they are trying to change the price as we speak..!!!
So I would say this is a NO GO...!
