Well i hate to break everyones hearts with this post, But i just got off the phone with Dell customer care demanding the $50.00 difference be applied back to my method of payment and here is the answer the supervisor gave me. If the system price drop is $50 or more, the amount of the price drop will be refunded back to you according to the original payment method (Credit card, payment terms, etc.).

NOTE: This is out of Dell's price protection policy email they sent me. The keyword I missed out on was SYSTEM. The price protection policy DOES NOT apply to accessories, only to system purchases.

But i whined and complained on the phone long enough that it is a deceptive practice that they gave me a $35.00 Coupon off the next purchase i made. And the only way i could be eligible for the $50.00 price difference is if i returned the monitor and got it at the 749.00 original price. But then of course the 25% off coupon i used would be null and void...not to mention expired now. So the best anyone can hope for is to whine and complain and get them to offer you a coupon. Hope this helps!!

Ouch. That's not good. I don't like coupons that can only be used at certain places.. I want money..

Too bad you couldn't get back the full price.

**Send your price review request to Dell CS via email; NOT over the phone**

1. I ordered the 2001FP on 01.01.05 and it arrived on 01.06.05. Was $799.00 - %25% Off LCD + MN Sales tax w/free shipping = $638.20
2. On 01.06.05 the 2001FP dropped to $599.25. If purchased, MN Sales tax & shipping and no discounts = $640.34
3. emailing Dell CS my order# and simply asking them to review the 'old' and current price resulted in a $50.00 credit. 2001FP = $588.20
4. returning the original order, paying return shipping ($33.00) and repurchasing the LCD @ $599.25 w/25% off + shipping & MN tax would be$546.78

So, if I wanted to do without the LCD for another couple weeks I could shave off another $41.42 but I'm pleased with this monitor @ $588.20. and I'm not one to border on shady dealing.

There are still 25% off LCD coupons out there that are good 'till 01.15.05, so new orders can get in for a song.
Some people are saying it'd be worth waiting for the new monitor that's replacing the 2001FP. Sure, if you're ready to pony up the bucks.

But does anyone know anything about a replacement for the 2001FP? If it exists yet and when approx. it will be released?

Maybe the 2005FPW is supposed to replace it. It has all the changes I'd want for the 2001FP. USB on the right side, no more power brick, higher contrast ratio...

Good because that IS pretty much fraud.

There is not much that can be improved upon @ $600-$650 shipped the 2001FP simply cannot be beat.

I asked for a Price review on my order(the price dropped the day mine shipped) and they said they don't refund unless the difference is more than $50, so they gave me a $50 off $50 coupon code. Got myself a nice UPS with it

REVIEW YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE BUYING 2001FP.

STRENGTHS-

If you ask me it looks like a wide screen. In my opinion, it is perfectly wide screen monitor for a home user and gamers.

EXCELLENT STRENGTH - Unlike any other LCD monitor, this monitor does not look fuzzy on NON-NATIVE RESOLUTION. This is the only monitor where I have seen this feature. Monitor automatically adjusts sharpness of picture and texts which is close to perfect on non-native resolution.

It has many more strengths as you know.

WEAKNESSES

Dell has used cheap quality plastic to cover LCD screen. Plastic actually has grids which you can see it on the image/picture. It makes pictures look fuzzy, low quality or dirty. Let me be more clearer. This cheap quality plastic actually has lines on it which shows up as 1000's of small squares on each image/picture. Some guy in ?Fat Wallet? form was saying that these squares are due to some kind of pixel separations not because of cheap quality plastic. Whatever it is... IN SHORT, IT LOWERS IMAGE QUALITY AND IT IS EASY TO NOTICE.

Pictures are much brighter and colorful with this monitor but they are more clear with my 3 years old CRT Monitor due to 1000's of small square lines.

TEXTS LOOK CROOKED (just like how alphabets would look on a cheap digital screen). Texts don't have nice curves like CRT Monitors do. Texts are very sharp so they are easy to read. This is not something you should worry about.

I do not know why do people kept calling this monitor a gamer's monitor. Is it because of Response time is 16? If you ask me GRAPHICS LOOK FUZZY ON THIS MONITOR. I do have a good video card. I am used to playing my games on CRT and they look perfect. On 2001fp. I can see that color's are brighter but they don't look good due to those 1000's of small squares. It looks bad.

At last, this is only my opinion. I though you should all know about these issues before you buy it.

Candyman7 is right-on. I bought a 2001FP and noticed the horizontal pixel separation within 2 minutes of hooking it up. I thought I'd get used to it, since I work from home and spend 10+ hours a day in front of the monitor. I didn't. It drove me crazy so much that I ended up buying a 2005FPW and am eBaying my 2001FP. That isn't to say that it will bother everyone. My brother has the same monitor, with the same pixel distance, and he doesn't notice it one bit. Nor do any of my friends. If anyone wants it they can have it for $500+actual shipping via whatever method desired.

You just have to be persistant with your calls to customer care. They are located in India which as you already guesed, do not speak or understand casual english very well. You just have to stay reasonable and adamant at the same time. Do not give in if they offer you a dell concession credit. Just simply state that you do not have anything thing to purchase and do not like the fact that you are being forced to purchase a product from dell before the coupon expiration date. which is only 6 months.

i bought 2 2001fp's at seperate dates and have received $100 credit back to my credit card.

you will get your money back. just be patient.

I really don't notice anything pertaining to the fuzzy graphics you speak of. infact, this LCD is much more clear and sharp vs my 21in NEC crt.
I play massive amounts of games on it aswell and they all look perfect. No ghosting or lag, with brilliant colors and picture quality.
what kind of video card are you using? also are you taking advantage of the DVI connection? i only have a ati 9800pro and everything is brilliant!

There is nothing FRAUDULANT about what he stated. He is only attempting to get the best price availabe to him. Please choose another word.

Thrifty yes, but not fraud.

and $600 - $650 shipped has been beat, by $150 - $200.

The pixel seperation you guys are noting is called the screen-door effect. It's well noted in many fixed-pixel display types, but typically as the result of viewing the screen too closely.

In the case of the 2001FP, where it is viewable from a normal viewing distance, it is design flaw.

I'm using a 2001FP right now and while it is clearer than the 22" NEC CRT I had before, it simply sucks for gaming, to be honest. I have it hooked up over DVI, and the ghosting and lag is basically unbearable. I've ordered a 2005FP in the hopes that it won't be so bad, but we'll see....

The 2001FP is a great monitor if you're not a gamer. Unfortunately, I am...

Hi,

Is it me or are all the 25% off coupons not working on dell.com with a 2005fpw monitor??

For what it's worth, I have two 2001FPs (one purchased 8/2004, the other 3-4 weeks ago). Both are connected via DVI to Radeon 9800s. I have not noticed ghosting/lag problems or the screen door effect mentioned by others. Neither have my sons who use them for heavy gaming. Perhaps there are issues with certain batches, maybe it's an analog vs. DVI issue, maybe it varies by video card. Who knows? In any case, we are quite happy with ours. YMMV.

Whew! I'm glad you put in your 2 cents. My conscience was taking a break when I posted that and I wasn't sure if I was in bounty hunter territory. Your point however, jogged my memory in that there's a potential restocking charge for non-defective/non-order related returns according to Dell's "Total Satisfaction Policy" (I said "Potential" because it's up to the Rep as to whether the charge is applied to the RMA or not). That charge brings the then potential variance to $26.42. The Dell Rep stating that I would have to return the LCD I had and repurchase in order to apply a 25% off LCD coupon to the new $599.00 price is the part that must have thrown me off. Good thing I just don't like shady deals.

MMmmmmmm I think $588.20 is an improvement on $600-$650. $482.43 pre-tax ain't bad either.

hmm. You should definitely reply or call. It doesn't make sense. Nobody else has mentioned delays on this thread.
