ok
2001 or 2005fp ?
Dell preferred has a special on the 2001 saving a lot
2005 of course is $$ and unless I can get a coupon for it for 25% it's prob not worth getting nw

but, quality

which is better widescreen or the normal one ?
I saw that the contrast was higher on the 2005
What about refresh

basically I want the one that plays games the best

Then again a CRT would be my best bet but I really am tired of the space it takes up.

By stats, the 2005FPW is better. Higher contrast ratio, response rate is faster. However, I'm not sure about the build quality of the 2005FPW. Some people have posted about pixels or backlights..

My 2001FP will be arriving in 12hrs.. Can't wait. I hope it's perfect. I've heard that both 2001FP and 2005FPW handle games just fine. I won't really be able to tell you an answer for that, since I only play counterstrike... My old Planar 17.4" is good for that, and it's old and slower.

Since I'm OP I guess I should update hehe...

I've been using my new 2005FPW for about a week now. I love it. It does have issues such as two dead pixels and backlighting problems (Rev. A00 made in Mexico). People are reporting perfect screens with Rev. A01. I have called dell and they are sending a replacement screen with prepaid shipping of the old screen back to them. I don't mind it though, this screen is really nice and I can use it until the new one arrives.

If you're getting the 2005FPW, be prepare to do a few switches before you get the perfect screen. This is still a new monitor, so the first few batches will have problems. If you don't mind having to switch the LCD every week or so until you get the perfect one, I really do recommend this widescreen. VERY bright and contrast is GREAT.

ordered last week, arriving this week. should definately check on your order. refresh rate is 75hz, it is definately good for gaming. you wont see any lag. I think the Widescreen is ok, but you get a smaller working area. It has a slightly better refresh rate, but the FP is better.

Candyman7 is right-on. I bought a 2001FP and noticed the horizontal pixel separation within 2 minutes of hooking it up. I thought I'd get used to it, since I work from home and spend 10+ hours a day in front of the monitor. I didn't. It drove me crazy so much that I ended up buying a 2005FPW and am eBaying my 2001FP. That isn't to say that it will bother everyone. My brother has the same monitor, with the same pixel distance, and he doesn't notice it one bit. Nor do any of my friends. If anyone wants it they can have it for $500+actual shipping via whatever method desired.[/quote]

Oops, sorry about the double post. Hey Solema, if you'd take $460 for the monitor, then I'd buy it from you. I'll pay the actual shipping costs. You can email me at wired_monk@mail.com if you're interested.

I have the 2001FP. It's big and perfect. No bad pixels.. nothing noticeable. It's nice to adjust the monitor height.

I ordered a 2001FP on 2005-01-06 for $526.75 ($578.21 to CA). Supposed to ship on the 12th, but Dell just pushed it back to the 19th.

2 weeks is a long time to wait for an established product from a company that perfected Just In Time inventory.

Heh... maybe Dell always experiences "unexpected delays" on their deeply discounted orders?

Has anyone ordered a 2001FP after 2005-01-06 and had their order ship already?

Same too... Are your monitors still in production status?

I ordered on the 1/3/05, then canceled and reordered on 1/6/05 to get the cheaper price. My 2001FP arrived on 1/11/05. However, according to the dell site, it was supposed to be shipped on the 12th. What status are you guys in?

If it makes you guys feel better about waiting, the last 3 2001FP I've seen and handled are perfect. No bad pixels or anything that I noticed. All received within the last 10 days.

What's the email address/link for customer support to ask about a price adjustment? I checked on Dell's webpage, but couldn't find anything about it in the support/customre service section where you can "Email dell"

I ordered a 2005fpw with the 30% off 1/11 and got a ship date of 1/25. Two weeks. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

I think the price adjustment is only for "computer systems". At least that's according to someone else's post a couple of pages earlier in this thread (or another thread). He ended up getting credit to the store instead of money back.

Calling and being aggressive on the phone might be better than using email, since they can reject you easily through email and then you'll have to reply and wait again... On the phone, you can probably complain and complain until something good happens to you. It's a toll free call.

Due to price drop Dell gave me a choice for my 2001FP. Either I can get $45 credited back to my Credit Card or they would give me a code for $100 gift Certificate at Dell

I think I am planning to take $100 gift certificate. Do you guys know any other good deals at Dell? I am happy with one monitor and planning not to get another one.

Please let me know if you guys know of any great deal at Dell for $100.

Thanks

a little shipping FYI

I ordered my 2005 last night from Dell Small Business. Original ship date was 1/26. I just got a call from Dell to confirm the shipping and billing addresses. They said it was going to ship in 5 days which would have it leaving on the 18th, 8 days before the earlier estimate. So, don't put too much stock in the initial shipping date.

although the dude did sound like he was in an Indian call center, so he may not have all the correct info.
