Concensus is yes, it is very nice. However the 2001FP actually gives a greater desktop area, and is more practical for normal everyday use and gaming (since not all games support the native res on the FPW).

Thank you

Thanks RossMAN, that just confirmed my fears. I don't think I can switch from a 21" CRT to a 17" flat panel even if it's widescreen. Looks like I'll have to wait and see if dell releases a version with a height of 19" or greater.

Anyone else out there who could PM me a spare 25% of LCD coupon? I am still working on an old 15" CRT that can't even do 1280 and I would really like to upgrade. Anyone?

Lucky I waited yesterday got one today for $583 shipped, estimated ship date "On or before Thrusday, December 02, 2004". Can't wait for it to come, I wonder how the PIP works on this LCD screen.

I had a Compaq P1220 (22" Diamondtron tube with a ~20 viewable area) and got a 2001FP. It was great with everything but games and video. Maybe I'm just picky but I didn't like the "lag" for fast moving scenes. For instance, I stopped in Half-Life2 in an area where there was water flowing by and it was all pixelated. After a few weeks I returned my 2001FP. I miss the extra desk space and razor-sharp quality at 1600x1200 but the 2001FP can't touch my Diamondtron in games and it still looks great at 1280x960.

When it all came down to it I had to ask myself, is the 2001FP $600 better than my CRT and the answer was absolutely not.

Aye, me too.

Take away its coolness and size factor, the best LCD's lagg far behind a $100 CRT.

for most of us, a good lcd is more than coolness and size factor...it's for the care of our eye sight.

Same...

I had actually ordered a 2001FP, but my brother had gotten one a few days earlier, so I tested it out connected to my video card. Too much ghosting/lagging for me, and I'd probably rather not spend $650 on something I can just "live with", so I cancelled my order.

For me, LCDs are much more convenient because:

1) They produce FAR less heat than their CRT counterparts of equivalent size (important because PCs are nearing/going OVER 100W of radiated heat)

2) They're arm-mountable, meaning more deskspace with no sacrifice in screen real-estate. I still keep a G400 19" CRT - but I'm an LCD converter.

3) DVI - it just looks better.

My next display will probably be an HDTV-capable LARGE display (23-30" 16:10) that I'll turn into a TV/PC personal multimedia joygasm experience.

For all the haters, the $50 coupon is still out there. I ordered 6 of the 20"'ers, each with the $50 coupon......total came out to $544 each or something like that..

How do you place an order with the coupon? Can someone tell me and send me the $50 off coupon as well? I'd be happy to share my $550 off a Plasma TV code in return

I can't find any new $50 off coupons. Would like to get this LCD ASAP, too.

PM me with the coupon code?
