My 2001FP arrived a few days ago and I've been loading games after games on the computer for my kid. Without running anything to deliberately see if there are any bad pixels, I haven't seen anything amiss with this very nice monitor. I've looked hard at dark screens and everything is dark. I've peered at the white screens and you do see something that looks like graininess, but to me it's like the aperture grill monitors with the 1 or 2 horizontal damper wire(s) that are visible..... after a bit, you never notice it, and some people never notice it at all. But people used to buy the aperture grill monitors instead of the shadow mask for a reason (usually better color, brightness, contrast, geometry and quality). I bought this so I didn't have to lug around the old 45 lb. 19" monitor that took up so much desk space I couldn't work on/tinker with my pc easily. I've been very pleased with how everything looks and only noticed "graininess" when looking for it.

If in doubt, buy something else. Just because something has a coupon doesn't mean you have to get it. Read Anandtech's Nov. 30th 2004 Guide to Choosing the Right 19" LCD Monitor. They settled on the Samsung 193P as top-notch but at $700. Then they said "if we had to pick a second best performer (other than the Dell 2001FP)"... to look at the virtually identical ViewSonic Q190MB and the NuTech L921G. Not too bad that the year-old Dell, last year's almost universal favorite LCD display choice, still is very highly regarded. At $600 now discounted, that's also not bad.

I thought it was plenty bright and even turned it down a bit, but the newer displays are even brighter. Doesn't matter to me. My eyes are shot from staring at a 17" CRT all day long at work, and less bright is good.

This whole experience has really turned me off Dell. I doubt I'll ever buy from them again.

My LCD had the 'brightness in four corners' problem. Called Dell, spent an hour and a half on the phone with some guy that spoke very poor english, who told me he would have to call me back with a case number and RMA because their systems were down. Two days later, still no callback.

Called Dell, held for 30 minutes, talked to a guy who had to transfer me to another department, another 30 minutes on hold. Explain the situation, of course no case number, by this time I'm ticked and just want a refund. RMA issue, told me they'd pick it up yesterday.

Yesterday came and went, called this morning, another 30 minutes on hold, talked to someone else who couldn't speak much english to find out for some reason the notice didn't get issued to UPS for pickup, promises someone will be here tomorrow afternoon to pick. We'll see.

That's 2-1/2 hrs wasted.
