I am very interested in one of these. I cant see them sitting next to each other. The widescreen seems like the smarter choice to me, but my brother thinks I get "less real estate". I want the best bang for my buck. I am currently using a 1800fp how would these 2 compare?

For movies---> 2005FP because of the widescreen.
For games---->2001FP because a lot of games have the native 1600*1200 resolution, just the question of whether your vid card can handle it.

I chose the 2005FPW myself, and it's great for games. It's really a matter of personal preference, as to whether you want the widescreen 16:10 or the standard 4:3. Yes, the 2005FPW will have slightly less "real estate", but that hasn't bothered me one bit. You can really only choose for yourself. If you have any more questions on the 2005FPW, feel free to PM me or post them here.

2005fpw widescreen is the future even for gaming why not be ahead.
2001fp is nice but i personally love widescreen and wish i had a widescreen monitor also you can still run normal instead of widescreen on games most games coming out support widescreen.

I wanted to be able to run games in their true aspect ratio, so I went with the 4:3 2001FP ($475 ). Also, for something like using emulators or PS2 over the s-video, all those games are designed for a non-WS aspect ratio. I went with this because I wasn't even wild about 5:4.

Using rough algebra in my head:

2001FP = ~192 sq. in.
2005FPW = ~180 sq. in.

I have a pair of 2005FPWs and I love them. My dad is using my old 2001FP, I don't like it as much. It def has more visable space but it's harder to see, not as easy on the eyes.

Gaming on a 2005FPW is awesome.

I got the 2005fpw. I played Half Life 2 and I saw ghosting. Also its shorter than my 1800fp. Yes I like the widescreen for games like wow, and Half Life but the response time difference definitely shows up. Mine also came with some sort of blackness issue. The top right and bottom left corners look like some one is shinning a flashlight at them. So I think im going to return the 2005fpw and get the 2001fp. The 2001fp received rave reviews for games; the 2005fpw didn't do so well.

Tell you the truth the only thing that will satisfy me is the 2400fpw its actually faster than the 2001fp and 2005fpw. OMG I want it so bad. Now that I've seen games in widescreen it?s going to be tuff to give it up. No loss of real estate, I?d actually gain some! Now I just need some one to loan me 600 dollars.

*Switching to the 2001fp. Now i have to wait for it to go onsale again for below 500.

I haven?t replaced my 2005fpw yet. I have back light issues so mine definitely needs replacing. I was going to switch to a 2001fp, but i went to Comp USA today and had the pleasure of seeing a 20.1 inch and a 20.1 inch widescreen next to each other. I was not impressed by the 20.1 4:9 at all not enough to give up wide screen gaming, so im going to flip flop one more time and stick with the 2005fpw even though it may take me 20 tries to get one that works right.

Been wanting a 2005fpw more and more, just have a few concerns - do games which don't support the 2005's wide aspect ratio stretch to fit, or do you get black bars? Also, do you think a 9800 pro can handle it for most games (WoW specifically) if I turn off eye candy and aa/af?

No black bars it just slightly stretches the game. And my buddy plays wow with a 9800pro on Wide Screen on a 26 inch lcd with no problems.

You cannot go wrong with either. I recently purchased a 2001fp upgrading from a 22" NEc CRT. I am impressed by the clarity and compactness. I will occassionally play games. Its paired with an AtI AIW 9800 Pro 128 and they are great together. The future is not written get what YOU want now.

To me at least, the monitor is the single most important component to a computer, if you have the means, spend the extra dough and get the 2405.

Nothing better than HL2 at 1920x1200 with all the goodies turned on...
