Yah don't notice it on my monitor what you describe with that background. Are you sure dell just did not send your monitor back to you? Anyway to compare serial numbers between old and new one? I guess that could happen sometimes..

Did you load the color profile from the CD that came with the monitor? Or are you using a custom one, perhaps from photoshop? Or maybe your old color profile?

My 2407-hc, as far as I can tell right now, is absolutely stunning.

Edit: although, I will admit, I am on painkillers right now.. so I don't know what effect that may have on how I see things...

Do you have a TV tuner card?

I do own one, but I don't have it installed at the moment. Why do you ask?

Also, jhbball, if I really really reallllly look hard enough up close, I can see the faintest of ghosting with a white cursor on a solid black background. But in normal use, I don't notice it at all.

I installed the monitor inf manually, but I was not able to install the color profile. For some reason, I'm not seeing an auto install for this stuff. the cd fails to run an auto install prompt. Any ideas?

jhbball You aren't nuts. I play LOTRO and get quite a bit of ghosting, and it's very noticeable in the darker areas - where terrain meets the daytime sky and the like.

My older Viewsonic VP912 didn't have this issue, but for everything else this monitor is amazing, so I will deal with it.

Oh, for those of you wondering - I run the latest forcewares on an 8800GTX, so it isn't my hardware

I was wondering how TV looks on your LCD.

Thanks

this Dell monitor seems to be based on a S-PVA panel
http://www.hardforum.com/archi...dex.php/t-1206246.html

Judging by what I have read on S-IPS vs S-PVA,

the former supposedely has:
-better colors
-much better viewing angle
-better responsiveness

the latter has:
-darker blacks
-less uniformity when comparing edges to the center (not sure)

I could be totally wrong here, feel free to correct me at will. Also, the fact that this dell carries an improved CCFL backlight may change things a bit. The NEC is glossy, the dell is not (better colors at the cost of more glare). The resident LCD guru xtknight likes the NEC, though I think he hasnt seen the Dell in person (just speculating)

Ultimately, the cost difference ($399 vs $579) is toooooo much to stomach for me - still a college student on a limited budget. Not like I do anything that would actually need widescreen support anyhow.

Congrats on those who needed this monitor and got a good deal on it As for me, I am still contemplating on the NEC or a cheap trini/diamondtron (if I find one locally)

I'll let you know when I can get around to it. As of now, I can really only lay down and sit up completely straight (t-boned while riding in friends car.. it's not too bad but I don't want to push it) so I can't put it back in yet.

I love Darren Aronofsky but that movie was unwatchable, even compared to PI.

I am set to get mine this afternoon, can't wait!

I'll chime in about ghosting to see if we've got a serious problem here.

Try this link also reduce your brightness to a value of 30 and try using the profile linked on the 1st page of this topic.

Good Luck.

Well my first one was a dud. One of the menu buttons doesn't work correctly(the + button is hard to push and doesn't click).

Very bad ghosting and banding over VGA on the 360 and a serious backlight bleed in the upper right hand corner.

This one was made in Mexico for those interested, the new one should be here in a couple days, hopefully it's 100% better. I'm pretty disappointed at this point.

Meh. Mine came with a VGA cable and a DVI cable, but no HDMI->DVI cable. (I'm in Canada.)

I HATE DHL as well with a passion! My "overnight" shipping ended up taking a full week. It turns out they only deliver to my town TWICE a week.

Anyway I have the monitor now, and it's absolutely gorgeous! Zero dead pixels. Manufactured August 2007 in Mexico.

Just wanted to give a final update on this. The second monitor didn't have any button problems and the tearing/ghosting/banding over VGA was still present.

A little discouraged I did some digging on the XBOX forums and discovered a fix for this over VGA:

Change the Sharpness from 50 to 30, bam problems gone.

So anyone having these issues when running 1080P over VGA there is your solution.

Now I am a happy camper!

I can't change the sharpness for some reason, the menu option is grayed out and the monitor skips right over it. I am running off of VGA as a dual monitor from a laptop. What gives?

I think it's not adjustable if you are using the monitor's native resolution.
