In a world where only a couple members shell out $1k+ on gaming cards, how many will buy this monitor?

We are a few years away from the this awesomeness being within reach for the middle-middle and below.

A major difference is that a GPU has a steep decline in value. It may last 6 months like the titan(ic) before being hit with a half priced competitor that beats it. A 4k screen will last for several years easily, the gpu will last 0.5 to 1.5 years max. On top of that productivity is easily justifiable for certain things which could use more screen real estate. Fewer people yet can actually benefit from more GPU power for productivity.

Has the 28" price been changed from the rumored less than $1k? That 32" doesn't give much hope that the next step down would be 1/3 the price.

The 32" is a high grade factory calibrated IGZO panel. The 28" is almost certainly a spartan VA panel. So there's a huge difference between the two.

Sweet about time we move on from 1080p for computer monitors! Though this is not really what I call... accessible. But it's a start. A triple monitor setup with this would be nice. Though, given the resolution could easily get away with two, and just put them one on top of each other.

This would also be awesome at work.... I work in a NOC, and 4 monitors (the max our computers can do) is not enough, but this would give us so much more pixel real estate. They'd never go for that though.

Considering the monitor is known to not be an UltraSharp, I wouldn't trust anything on that site at this time. Especially since all of Dell's previous 10bit displays were UltraSharps.

Well it just doesnt make sense to release a 60hz 1000usd non ips imho.

Who is the buyer for that?

I don't think that it will be TN, because I don't see a buyer for that. But I wouldn't be surprised if the quality of the monitor is somewhere around Dells cheaper Ultrasharp series. Somewhere around the likes of the u2412m and screens like that. If they have it in that range I could see it being 4k but much cheaper than their 10 bit ultrasharp displays.

I took a look at Dells P series displays and a lot of them are IPS displays today, but not of the top of the line ultrasharp performance.

Sounds like you really should have been using 1920x1200 all along.

lol. I give you a few days after you get the monitor until you get another 780ti... And still feel like you need another. Enjoy the screen. I'd like to see the 24" 4K because of the ppi. I just got my wife a Yoga 2 Pro and the screen looks great with the dense pixels. I still think a desktop 4K is going to better in the 32" IGZO size though.

already working on another Ti. I know I will need it too. I'm going to try to trade a pair of 7970's for one I think or atleast do that with the cash I get from them.

I agree too that 32" 4k would be better for desktop usage but hey, that's what my u3011 is for. =) I'm dying to lay my eyes on 180ppi gaming.

24" is too small 32" I still feel is a bit small but doable. I think I will save my 3k and stay with the 30" series in 1600p

I wonder what can kind of discount I can secure these guys at via my companies OEM discount

If you are buying multiple quantities, don't make the same mistake I did. I initially added 3 to my cart and paid for them all full price. However Dell actually offers a discount on multiple quantities, $301 off each additional on the 24", something like $900 on the 32". What you do is during the personalization options (where it asks if you want to buy a lock, speakers, etc) at the bottom of the page it says "buy a second monitor and save!". So for three monitors I ended up getting $602 off. Maybe you guys can do a group buy or something. Almost $1000 off the 32 is pretty tempting.

All that said, I cancelled the order. Reason being as there doesn't appear to be any GPUs out that can run triple 4k at 60hz except the pro cards. I considered getting the FirePro w7000 to run them, but ultimately I decided to wait as I want a solution that can run three 4ks at 60hz via DP1.2 AND output 60hz via hdmi 2.0, which not even the pro cards do. I have a 65" Sony 4K that has hdmi 2.0 and I'd love to be able to hook it up as an accessory display.

Add that to the fact that even these dells have the same scaler limitation as the previous 4k sets and I'm back to waiting, again.

I currently run triple dell 24s via a DP1.2 daisy chain. I thought three of these 24" 4ks would be an easy upgrade, but after researching I may go another route. I'm thinking of putting one 4k 32" in the middle, and then two smaller displays on the sides in portrait mode. I think if you go with 17" or 19"era in portrait, you can make all three of them be flush. Anyone tried that? I don't really need all three to be 4k, I could get away with 1920x1200s on the sides. It would be much easier to drive this kind of setup.

As far as who is going to buy these? To me, $1000 a pop for a 4k monitor is dirt cheap, I only replace my monitors every 3 years or so, so I can justify the cost. A grand on a GPU that's outdated in 6 months? Can't do it, even if I can afford it.

I'm holding out for the 28", since I don't need Ultrasharp for general use, plus the extra size will be nice for general use, and PPI will still be higher than a 24" 1200p.

Hopefully they won't be out that far into 2014. Already got the money ready for when they are.
