Question Dell UltraSharp U2713HM HMDI Output Limit

hey guys. i need some help with this one. my Dell U2713HM apparently doesn't support a resolution higher than 1920/1080 16x9. However the DVi in-put supports up to 2560x1440. I am looking to get a new GPU but i will not be able to achive anything higher using HDMi. The GPU i am looking for is only supporting HDMi (RX 2070). Would a DVI-HDMI converter allow me to reach higher resolutions or I'm i wasting my time and need a new monitor all together. Thanks guy!

Just make sure you get a dual-link DVI cable, and it should work. I have a Dell U2713HM and was disappointed to find out the HDMI input doesn't support beyond 1080p; however, the DVI-Dual link and Displayport both support 2560x1440@60hz. So you could use HDMI -> DVI-D or HDMI -> Displayport without issue. You can find these adapter cables on Monoprice/Amazon for relatively cheap.

Your 2070 also probably has a displayport output, are you sure it only has hdmi?

It has DVI, DSP,HDMI however the HDMI is limited to just that, 1920*1080 and the DSP is limited to 1920*1200 which stinks. I read some forums people doing what you suggested with a converter and it does not work well. I'm hoping to get a new screen all together that HDMI supports a much higher res.

I have always hated my U2713HM for the very reason that HDMI is limited to 1080p. Whatever though, I stuck a Raspberry Pi on the HDMI port.

DisplayPort, acronym DP, on this monitor was gladly drive the panel at it's full resolution of 2560x1440, and that's how I've used it since 2012.
A Dual-Link DVI to HDMI converter will also drive the panel at it's full resolution, you just lose things like HDCP and audio hitchhiking.

Just make sure your new GPU has DP and make sure you know if it's a full-size port or the mini so you have the right cable to plug in and you'll be gaming at max resolution no problem.

You shouldn't lose HDCP from HDMI-DVI unless they for some reason don't support it over DVI.

And yeah you should be able to get full resolution from DisplayPort, but maybe the cable you're using isn't allowing it? Is it an especially long one? Or are you basing it on something else and haven't actually tried that yet?

No, the monitor port simply does not support it. I also read other forums about it. I'm pretty much sol unless I can find a rtx with DVI I will not be able to get full res . So a new monitor is best in my situation.

@omega59 If you have a U2713HM the displayport 100% supports full resolution 2560x1440@60hz as others have stated. I've never heard of bad displayport cables so I'd start with your drivers/OS and even try forcing the resolution if that doesn't pan out. Then if that still doesn't work I'd try a new displayport cable.

The HDMI -> DVI-D cable is also an option.

You were right. the dsp port can do 2560x1440@60hz ! i will upgrade my gpu and use the dsp thx!
