Do you mean 9600GT?

9500Gt is kind of a turd (as far as a gaming videocard for modern games)

9500 GT is available with both DDR2 and GDDR3. The GDDR3 version performs around 60% better than DDR2 version, putting it around 60% of a 9600 GT. Sure, not a crazy performer, but not bad for not needing additional power. It's all about managing expectations.

Now, this all changes when the 9600 GT "green" comes out.

yeah

it depends on which games you plan on running. For older games, a 9500GT should be fine. I don't think it could even beat the 9600GT green though as what I saw has it downclocked only 50Mhz on the core and 125MHz on the shaders (same memory speed).

edit: and don't forget that the two monitor choices listed in the OP are 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 resolution. When you consider how much a 9500Gt costs, I don't see any reason to pick that over the other two (the 9600GT or the 4670). Even if power consumption is your main concern, the 4670 has been available a while already

edit 2: Looks like Inno3D will have a version with the same as 9600GT clocks: http://en.expreview.com/2009/0...reen-edition-leak.html

A buddy of mine is in dire need of a new system and I'm trying to get him to hop on one of these deals. Then just upgrade his PSU, and I'll give him my old 8800GT.

Just ordered this system, my 4 year old Inspiron 17" laptop just crapped out on me over the weekend.

Which video cards will go into this system without any adapters/changing psu? I am not sure if it's standard nowadays but dual DVI would be nice to have.

Thanks for your help

Wow, I bet you make a lot of friends.

But you are right, I did not clearly state my question.

The last time I built a desktop was in 2002 and I've been using primarily laptops since then. I apologize for my complete lack of knowledge for desktop components. I saw this deal from the OP as an opportunity to have a dual screen set up (1 TV, 1 Monitor) for streaming HD video and light gaming.

My main question is whether all 4670 cards are more or less equal and I can just buy the one on sale, or if there are still differences between the assemblers.

My secondary question relates to whether there's an easy way to define lineage (naming nomenclature) and power requirements so that I can easily distinguish whether a card is right for this computer when I see something on sale. Or if all cards not suited for this particular Dell are labeled with a "6 pin" power requirement.

Thanks BladeVenom.

BladeVenom is too kind. Kinder then me, that's for sure.

There's nothing wrong with asking for help/advice but you obviously had not even read the thread.

I'd guess they are all about equal. Sapphire actually manufactures most of them if I'm not mistaken. The differences being the fans, connectors, and extras in the box. The brand name is mostly important for warranty and customer service. The 4670's all have at least 512mb of GDDR3, so they don't vary as much as some of the cards. I doubt the 1GB or GDDR4 versions offer much of an improvement.

The naming of ATI/AMD cards is 4xxx is current generation. The 4670 will be better than a 4650 but not as good as the 4830. Nvidia's naming is a confusing mess, and you just have to read up on whats current.

Cards that requires more power than a 4670 will probably have an additional power connector, since the PCI-Express bus is limited to 150W of power. In the cards specs it should list what kind of power connector is used, or look at the pictures, or check the manufactures website where they also usually give power requirements.

THIS is my favorite 4670. Dual-slot cooler (good for the dell, since it has very limited case cooling), slight factory overclock, and it's usually one of the cheaper options.

Any suggestions on which monitor is better - the 22" E228WFP or 21.5" S2209W? Thanks.

For those that are adding some options. Consider free shipping $499+ with $80+ in add-ons. Some nice options are
Vista Home Premium: $29
Dual drives: $10
3gb Ram: $30 (may actually be worse considering it wouldn't be in dual channel mode)
HD: $10 for 250gb, $50 for 320gb
Media card reader $30
Firewire: $30

I can't make up my mind on which monitor either. I'm leaning towards the 2208WFP ultrasharp because it has the height adjustable stand and the built in USB hub.

This is for my brother who wanted me to find him a cheap rig for some light gaming. I think a 1680x1050 monitor would be a better match for the 4670 video card.

Does anybody know if the only difference between the 2208WFP Ultra sharp and the E228WFP is the stand anu USB hub?

I wonder how the S2209W would work for gaming if you backed the resolution down to 1680x1050, if that can even be down? That odd 1080p resolution is confusing me. As far as i can tell it's still a TN panel>

Update-

If you recall my initial order I made online got cancelled with no explanation.

I made a second order over the phone with a representative.

That got cancelled as well.

I waited on hold through 4 representatives only to be told "I'm not sure why it was cancelled."

Nobody ever informed me it was cancelled in either case, and I had to do all the footwork myself. I left it cancelled this time. I'm sick of it. Good luck to those of you who ordered and I hope yours goes through but ... I just don't have the patience.

I ordered mine about the same time, but no charged card or sign of shipping yet. Probably because of the upgrade to 24".

Placed an order on the tenth. There has been a hold for the purchase price placed on my debit card. The status shows as in production with an estimated shipping date of the twenty third.

Hmm... how would this Vostro pair up with this 9600 GSO card from Fry's I found in another thread? Would I need to up the PSU?

The 9600 GSO needs a PCIe power plug, which the Vostro does not have. You can buy a better PSU for it, or some adapters. The Vostro has a few extra SATA power plugs, but no molex, so buy appropriate adapters.
