looks interesting, but i dont like how the keyboard is separate. thats just one extra thing you would have to carry (unless it could be attached to the main unit somehow)

One of the pictures shows that when the machine is folded up, the keyboard is under the monitor with the rest of the computer.

see this pic
the vertical "break" is where the keyboard meets up with the main part of the laptop. it's just that in this concept, the keyboard can be separated from the rest of the body.

interesting, but...that's a huuuuuuuge btch

this thing, if dell doesn't mess it up, will be the thing to have for the mobile gaming community

check out the desktop (xps 600 renagade) - "quad nvidia sli technolgy. dual 1gb nvidia geforce 7800 sli graphics cards" - I didn't realize there was a 1gb version of the 7800. Is there?

That box could make shuttle and their ilk rather nervous. More than that, though, it probably makes the ludicrous end of the DTR pool nervous. It's nice to see someone admit that, while portability is nice, the laptop form factor is really stupid above a certain point. Having a setup designed to be portable despite being heavy, rather than just a really fat laptop, is a good idea.

i think its quad sli possible, but they give you 2 512GTX to start with

what im wondering is, how the XPS Renegade can have room for 4 PCIe x16 graphic cards, I have the dual GTX now and the big XPS 600 box is already running out of room (one pci left after SB Audigy 2), how can they possibly fit 2 more? are they one slot GTX's??!?!

the Renegade case is the same as the normal XPS 600 with the custom paint on. so its the same size

The Quad SLI will be two dual-gpu cards. Its two 7800GTX chips plus 512MB per card. So its 4 7800GTX chips and 1GB.

quad-gpu core in the mainstream. that's crazy talk. quad-cpu not even mainsteram yet. hell, dual core isnt being utilized to its full potential either.

sick!

back on topic re: XPS mobile, i dont think they are selling it as a laptop, just a very MOBILE XPS computer. dont expect dell to advertise it as a laptop or its weight

I actually like the Mobile Concept idea IF it offered performance ( graphics card-wise ) equal or superior to current 17" notebooks. I'd like to see a thinner bezel on the LCD and maybe a little squarer design for the LCD top. I'd like to see more brushed metal instead of plastic.

more info and pics about it Text

personally it looks pretty neat, but i have a feeling that it will be very expensive. also it probably would around as much as a shuttle+ lcd would, but obviously a little more compact.

Dell has said they currently have no plans to produce this. Although I think all the feedback and such they will end up producing it later this year.

I think the first question comes to mind is battery life? I got to say it's a good idea, but we'll need more info.

Battery life? The 15+lb weight already assures that nobody will be using this away from a power outlet or on the go. That being said, I think if done right, this computer is excellent. Why sacrifice anything, such as confining yourself to a 15.4" or 17" screen to have a DTR? Heck, make the screen 20"!

The computer would be powerful yet portable enough to take along during move-in and move-out day for college students, for example. Looks nice.

they've said the battery life should be pretty good (imagine the size of the battery one could fit in that form factor!), but using the thing away from a desk isn't something that is realistic. it's just too big to be a laptop. it is truely a portable computer (sorta like the mac portable back in the day, but with a battery).

this might be the ultimate mobile presentation machine.

and if it has 7800 go (sli?!?) in it, it will be the lan party computer of choice.
