Dell's Laptop Warranty FTL!!!!

My Dad's laptop battery died on him completely. He took the extended 2 or 3 year warranty for his laptop. When he had ordered the laptop, he opted for the more expensive battery. Only 1.5 years into the life of his laptop, the battery dies. He calls Dell and is on the phone for well over an hour to be told "your battery is dead, and even though you have multiple year warranty, it only cover battery for 1 year. If you'd like, $150 we send you a new battery." Craptastic Dell warranty.


The part number is: DELL U4873

Anyone know of a reliable place where to get a replacement for cheap?

For it to totally die? Maybe, however they only place a 1 year warranty on them for a reason.
Dell notebook batteries come with a 1-year warranty

All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance will degrade. For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced prior to 18 months. We recommend buying a new Dell notebook battery when the run time does not meet your needs.

This bit me too on a Dell laptop (battery went completely dead after about two years, had a three-year warranty, they wouldn't replace it.) I ended up getting a refurbed replacement battery for much less than Dell wanted.

I can understand them not wanting to be replacing fading batteries every year -- but if it completely dies? IMO they should replace it, but the warranty is clear on this point up front. Caveat emptor and all that.

this is why laptops should be more standardized, if nothing else at least the batteries.

All of them are like that. Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba.... all of them.

My bro had a Sony that the battery died in not even a year into its life but they wouldn't replace it.

All manufacture only warranty battery for 1 year.. thats why i dont charge it often.. 1-3 times a month... mainly use the notebook w/o battery plug in..

of course if u got the complete care warranty... waste their money for wasting ur time.. i drop my working lcd panel to get new ones for free.
