I recently got an Inspiron E1505 (delivered 1 day ago). The system itself is fast and I couldn't be happier, but the LCD leaves something to be desired. It strains my eyes and has a dead pixel in the upper right quartile of the screen. I chose the 15.4' non Truelife screen, and am sorely regretting it now. Both the 15.4', and the 15.4' Truelife come out to be the same price on Dell's ordering page. Do you think I can somehow get them just to ship a replacement monitor under the premise that I could install it myself? I've ordered from Dell numerous times before but I have never had any problems with my other purchases, so I am a little hazy on how the return/repair/money back system works.

edit: WOW! After an hour and a half of talking with a representative in India, Dell is sending me a 15.4' TrueLife LCD replacement monitor for my e1505!!! FREE OF CHARGE! My concern now is how do I go about replacing the screen? I have heard you need a glasses screwdriver kit, but has anyone had experience with replacing a screen on an e1505 or inspiron 6400? Thanks!!!

You have 21 days (I think from the day it shipped) to return it, and you have to return the whole thing, you can't offer to exchange the part.

Just send it back and straight up order a new one. It'll probably be a hassle, but so will putting up with that screen for a few years.

Send it back. I'm in the process of switching out 8 X1s for D420s, no questions asked...

check to see if it's a free refund. i read the return policy a few weeks ago and it said something about a 10 or 15% restock fee.

the screen is in the warranty. if you decided to save money by getting the cheapest monitor, you're gonna have to ship it back to have them replace it (at least i'm 99% sure)

Dell will not let you change out the screen. If you want a different screen, you must do a return and reorder. You may be able to change out the screen on your own, but it could void the warranty and you'll absorb the cost of the new screen. If you do a return/rebuy, you may have to pay some kind of restocking fee and remember, you only have 21 days to make up your mind.

If you change the screen yourself, arent you voiding the warranty?

Check with Dell regarding this, or else you ll end up with a brand new warranty less laptop..

I assumed that risk If something ever does go wrong later down the road i'd most likely sell the laptop parts individually anyway. The system only cost around $950.

and brain thank you so much for the documentation!

I wouldn't have done that.

If it's defective return it and ask for a new one, same specs and they pay shipping to/from.

Return FTW!

It wasn't defective. He just didn't like the screen he ordered it with and wanted to bump it up to the next resolution.
