Hi.

I am buying a new Dell workstation with Windows 11 Pro for Workstation and Dell is asking me to choose from following options to put in factory before shipping out. I am going to use this workstation for my personal use only and not for any business. I am not tech savvy so I just want a clean & simple Win-11 without any Dell junk. I will load all my apps & Antivirus & Anti malware etc. myself.

They are also recommending not to order Win-11 with new 22H2 update because they say it has problems & they are working with Microsoft for that.

Please help. Thank You.

Here is what they sent me in email.

You may choose avail either or all of the below services as part of Pro Deployment offering:

Load a generic/ready Image

Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.

Custom BIOS configuration

BIOS Logo Flash - Please provide us with the logo preferably in black background in BMP format (256 color) with a resolution of 640 x 480 upto 2 mb size.

Asset Label/Tagging – samples below.

Standard Asset Report

Onsite Installation

Once the scope is confirmed, we will set-up the project in TechDirect for your review and submission.

Testing period:
7 business days for project set-up and testing at factory as per project scope in TechDirect. Upon successful testing, we will send you the screenshots of the label/ BIOS for your perusal.
The orders will be released for production upon your approval.

Thanks again.

If you didn't want Dell junk then why did you order a Dell computer?

I think the nearest option they offer to what you want is a generic image. When you receive the computer, Win11 should be up and running and it'll be up to you whether you want to spend time removing their extra software or doing a wipe-clean install yourself or just put up with it.

First many Thanks for a quick reply & I very much appreciate it.
Because I run 8 to 12 Monitors & I couldn't find anyone to build it & they give me 24x7 tech support & replace parts for 3 years.
The guy called me and told me they will take out anything that I don't want.
But I don't know what & bios etc scares the hell out of me.
So please tell me what should I tell him ?

Just tell them to skip the OS and DL it yourself w/o the bloat.

As @mikeymikec noted....

I can't recall ever buying direct from Dell. All of the OEM's tend to waste time and money on setting up a new system.

Because I run 8 to 12 Monitors
IIRC you posted buying a different WS setup from them and sending it back because the GPU's didn't have full functionality to support both at X8 at least and caused some of the displays not to work.

So, the real question is does the new MOBO support X8 / x8 or are they just using the same junk as before?

It would be much cheaper to just DIY and build what you need / want instead of relying on Dell or anyone else to do it.

Isn't that the same option they are giving in the second line " Load a generic/ready Image" ?

You are right. This is a different model & version 5820 & it has two full length X16 slots with X16 electrical. I can & do run even 3rd card with X16 Length with x8 electrical in my current WS. So I have made that clear to them. But won't know till I get it.

I wish, I was expert on building my own rig like some of you.

DL'ing the vanilla OS yourself ensures you don't have bloat.

Good to know you made sure you have all of the slots you need for all those panels.

Building isn't that big of a deal if you follow the formula. PCPartPicker.com walks you through making sure all of the components will work together. Pick the CPU / GPU / MOBO and then from there it limits the choices to what's compatible and will fit in whatever case options remain.

You should ask them to ship the laptop without OS installed unless you are happy with bloatware.

Some of the bloatware can be removed with the system administrator account. You may need elevated administrative privilege to remove some of them.

You Don't have the administrative rights to run the command

You can install Windows 11 by yourself by downloading the image direct from the Microsoft website. You can purchase the license key too separate.

Always check the dell laptop keyboard before you accepting the parcel. Some models have keyboard complaints.

If you read the beginning part of their description, I think they are saying that they will give me the Vanilla version OR am I missing something ?

I'd get it shipped with their default configuration so you can see that it works and there's less argument if it doesn't immediately work.

I think you could have saved yourself a lot of headaches simply by consolidating to a couple of large monitors and running your apps in smaller windows within them.

Good advice & that is what I am thinking because 3 months ago I bought their 3660 Workstation & they could not make it work for 2 months & 7 engineers & I had to return it.

I did think about it but it will not work for what I want to do. But Thanks for a good idea.
