That's a pretty damn good deal.

FYI,

945P Chipset (supports all Pentium D cpu's)
4 DIMM slots for DDR2 (supports up to 4GB DDR2 400/533/667)
One PCIe x16 slot

The power supply is powerful enough to run any video card on the market with ease. Oh, and unlike the E510 model, this model does fully support dual slot video cards.

Full spec's...

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps400/sm/specs.htm#wp1053343

This is the same as the XPS 400 system.

Pictures.... (this is the 9100 which is basically the exact same as the 9150)

Good deal, I don't see the Ultrasharp monitor included very often. This also comes with a "2 year on-site Economy Plan".

Great post bamacre, thanks for the specs and pics.

According to the the thread at SD, using your Discover card knocks off 5%.

Also, for anyone looking to pick this up, I'd spend the $10 to get you Windows XP reinstall CD.

This is an outstanding deal! I would strongly recommend the $40 video card upgrade to ensure that you'll get glass in Vista.

Hmmm...the price is $679 with CD writer, 80GB HDD, and 19 inch E196FP LCD (no DVI input). My cost for parts is around $580 but I suspect DELL's cost is just north of $500. Too bad one cannot overclock this CPU.

I can guarantee you Dell's cost is much, much lower.

But if you were building...

Case/PSU = $100
945P Motherboard = $95
CPU = $160
Memory = $78
Video card = $35
CDRW/DVD = $30
80GB SATA = $45
OS = $100

That's over $600 there, plus there is a 19in LCD, mouse, and keyboard.

the default config on dells website shows $679 with all the lowest options
where does it show $589 as a price for the 9150?

also the 5150 with a gig of ram and a 17 in flat panel goes for $599

I saw this deal on Ben's Bargain's, but his link was borked. I tried to find it myself at Dell's site, but couldn't come close. you can do way better than that. an 820 chip is maybe $120 at most places. you can get them for $90 or so on ebay.

a half decent case / psu is not $100. you can even get pretty good cases from a brand name for $50 with a psi. same with the ram, decent quality ddr2 1gb is about $45-50.

and the OS being xp home, oem is like $70 or less not $100.

Still a decent deal for noobs. I'm losing money at $580 parts + shipping (no markup on labor).

But it is not a half-decent case, nor a half-decent power supply. The power supply could actually run a couple of 7900 GT's in SLI, not that the motherboard supports it. The case is extremely well-design. I've worked with a LOT of ATX cases on the market, and there are no $50 cases that even compare with this case. Now attractiveness is a preference, so I'm ignoring that. The case has a lot of very nice features inside, check out the pics I linked to above.

You're right about the cpu. In fact, a 930 would be a much better buy at ~$175 retail.

I'd like to see where you can get some 1GB kits of DDR2 for $45-50, and XP Home for $70. I'm currently paying $82 for Home OEM, and ~$145 for 2GB kits of DDR2 (corsair). The Dell will include either Samsung, Infineon, or Micron.

Even still that deal included the 19in LCD as well as a mouse/keyboard.

$50 Antec SLK3000B is a much better case. Same with the $20 Chenbro Gaming Bomb. An HEC 585 is $29 (was $19 in early July). CompUSA has the Antec TP430 for about $40. Dell's PSU is average at best!

I wouldn't pay $30 for that DELL case. As for WXP Home...Office Depot had a sale two weeks ago for $30 AR! Gotta be a sharp shopper to save $.

I would take this deal in a minute if I could get it. Anyone else had any luck trying to order it for this price?

I still disagree, totally. There is not a single case on the market for $50 that could even compare to that Dell case. Same for the PSU.

The PSU in the Dell is one thing, but the chassis is fabulous. You couldn't possibly have had your hands on one, or you wouldn't say anything so ignorant.

From the silent, thorough airflow, to the quick access bays and panels, I'd take even their low end cases over some of these over hyped, noisy, "gaming" tin cans!

You must have a funky idea of what quality is. The 9150 is on par with a Sonata Case with an SLI-ready PSU. Easily $100.

The Sonata II is crap. Worthless air duct.

Almost all of Dell's stuffs are crippled-ware (build to Dell's "value" specs). Perhaps that's why Dell's stock is in the dog house, while it's competitor's HP is near a multi-year high.

How about you show us a case better than the 9150 case, and compare the two.

That has nothing to do with cases nor power supplies. It has a lot to do with AMD increasing marketshare due to the past 4 years of a better and cheaper product than Intel.

If you want to compare the two companies, Dell and HP, check out the numbers for total revenue.
