Delta Airline thoughts?

I need to book a flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles, and Los Angeles back to Sydney, and so far Delta is my cheapest option.

I've flown United from San Fran to Sydney once, and it was absolute rubbish, so I'm kind of hesitant to take Delta on two cross Pacific flights. Has anyone done these routes with Delta before? I will also miss out on frequent flyer points as Delta doesn't link up to Qantas (which is who I do my miles with).

All US airlines blow internationally, they're all more/less the same. Its sad when you take an international flight with Delta/United then another with something like Emirates or Virgin Atlantic its just no comparison.

I flew Delta from Newark to Madrid in February '07 and it was pretty good. Haven't really had any other international travel experiences to compare it to though.

I flew a couple of flights on Delta from Atlanta to Stuttgart (Germany) in economy. Was pretty decent, no major problems.

ive done sfo/icn many times, dfw/icn a few times, and lax/icn and ord/icn once.

continental and united blow. delta i would expect the same from, especially now after the merge with NW.

i think the prices are fixed that a flag carrier would always be cheaper to/from US destinations. at least the taxes make it so. if you want a nice flight, take a foreign carrier.

the government owns delta and united and amr like they own ford gm and chysler. they couldnt, could they??

Well there goes that idea...

My next option is come all the back to Australia from Japan, and take a round trip Qantas flight to LA the next day or the day after, which all the flying does sound great. But for some reason the prices of one way tickets are twice as much as buying a round trip ticket.

It's all my wife and I fly and she flies a ton for work.

I like Delta... except for that creepy woman on the safety video with the a huge mouth.

Rofl when I saw that my first thought was she had way too much plastic surgery. Apparently shes a real flight attendant based out of Atlanta

Delta has always been better than united and continental for me. Haven't flown international with them though.

The only airlines I've seen better than NW are small ones. Jet Blue, Sun Country at one point, etc.

Delta has much better IFE compared to the other domestic carriers (unless you get one of the older/NWA planes). Honestly, for the non-frequent flyer, price is probably the best differentiator between domestic airlines.

Aren't they all basically the same? Honestly, what's so bad that you'd pay more to go with another airline? A flight is a flight - just pick the cheapest.

Yeah for the most part they are all the same. Crap in, crap out. Some of the smaller airlines have more personality. But honestly, I just want to be left alone. Let me get on the plane and get me to my destination incident free and on time. Could care less about eating or drinks, or even saying hello to me.

I don't know what you're looking for -- it is transportation. Pick the cheapest and try not to get stuck in a middle seat. When you get to the airport, see how much an upgrade will cost if that would make you feel better.

Yeah, she is odd looking which is why I was kind of shocked that people think she is "hot." Of course, she is Meryl Streep in terms of acting skill compared to the buffoon who demonstrates the life jacket in the video.

Normally, I agree with this, but on a long haul 10+ hour flight I don't like to skimp. I've flown "cheap" fares on long haul before, and it it absolutely horrible. Outdated seats, no entertainment, small cattle like economy class. If I'm spending over $1000 for flights, I want something a little more then just a seat...

I haven't flown Delta in many years, but IMO, if you hated United...you'll really hate Delta.

United has always treated me well, had good comfortable seats, and got me to my destination, safe and on time.
Delta, while also getting me to my destination safely, wasn't always on time, seats weren't very comfortable, and with only a few exceptions, treated us like we were on a cattle car. (the exceptions were in a nearly empty airplane...we got moved to first class...and everyone on the plane got free champagne for the whole flight.
Delta was far from the worst carrier I've flown, just not as good as United IMO.

It's really going to be horrible no matter what you do, unless you want to spend a whole lot of money (and it seems you don't).

Accept that you are going to be miserable for 10 hours regardless of what airline you choose and just get the cheapest ticket you can, imo.
